As far as VL turbo's go the majority choose to stick to an auto transmission so it was good to see Nigel's giving his manaul box some stick at Calder Park. The VL Commodore is powered by a D'Annello Performance Nissan RB25/30 twin cam turbo six combination that makes big power on pump fuel. Nigel was testing a new 2-step / flat shift setup and the Holden certainly showed promise going 10.04 at 140mph and 113mph to mid track.

50psi boost 1200+hp Nissan RB30 - Ethanol E98
Nissan RB30 SOHC 3L engine built and tuned by JPC making over 1200hp on Ethanol fuel. The engine still retains a factory block and crank. Improvements come from a custom JPC turbocharger, manifolding, roller rockers and cam gear. Fuel is fed via ID2000cc injectors and an Autronic computer system.
This engine has previously run 8.79 at 160.25mph (with less power) in a full weight (3250lb) Holden VL commodore through stock suspension, Powerglide transmission, 9in rear end and 28x9in slicks.

Ford 4L turbo Holden VL Calais - Turbowerx
A red body shell housing a blue oval heart, Graham Harrison of turbowerx Automotive runs into the 7-second zone piloting his Ford 4L Barra turbo powered Holden VL Calais at the 2012 Brisbane Sport Compact Jamboree. Modifications include a Garrett GTX45 turbocharger, MicroTech LT16 computer, Powerglide transmission and 4-link rear end running through 33x10.5in tyres.

Ford FG XR6 turbo runs deeps 10s
Steve's Ford FG XR6 4L Barra turbo drives to the track, runs back to back 10.3-second passes at 140+mph on street radials and drives home. The car has been modified by Nizpro turbocharging and features bottom end strengthening, a Garrett GT3582X turbo (stock manifold) running on United Ethanol E85 fuel. The factory ZF 6spd auto is beefed up by a billet input shaft.

Mazda RX3 13B rotary turbo - Promaz Automotive
Ross' immaculate Mazda RX3 runs into the 9s for the first time. The new car is powered by a Promaz Automotive 13B bridgeport rotary engine and aided by a Garrett turbo and MicroTech EFI. Ross has fitted an Albins gearset to the Mazda RX-7 gearbox. The RX3 was only on low Boost this time out so expect the guys to run a lot quicker yet.
