How To Replace The Fan Belt and Tensioner in an Astro Van or GMC Safari
Here is how to replace the fan belt and fan belt tensioner in a Chevrolet Astro van or GMC Safari van. The fan belt is also called the accessory drive belt. On my GMC Safari van, the accessory drive belt tensioner broke. The belt tensioner is spring loaded and has a pulley on the end, which presses on the accessory drive belt and maintains tension, so you never need to adjust it. On my GMC Safari van, the pulley got loose and one of the bearings popped half way out and jammed the pulley crooked, causing the belt to slide off. A new pulley for your tensioner costs $17.99, and a complete tensioner and pulley unit costs $35.99. I went ahead and bought the tensioner and pulley unit, and I bought a new accessory drive belt for $19.99. It was easy to install, and I hope this video helps you learn how to replace your accessory drive belt and tensioner.
