Though rival Indian also supplied motorcycles to the U.S. military during World War II, the majority of those used in battle were Harley-Davidson WLAs. Wearing the requisite Olive Drab paint, these were 45-cubic-inch V-twins fitted with special equipment for wartime use. Items such as an ammo box, machine-gun scabbard, and rear carrier are obvious; less so are the special "blackout lights" front and rear that projected only a small sliver of light in an effort to avoid detection. In all, roughly 80,000 WLAs were built, many being sold as surplus after the war.

Burt Munro's 1920 Indian Scout
This is the 1920 Indian Scout built and driven by Burt Munro. Jay Leno on commentary. Three times during the '60's it set the World's fastest flying mile record for motorcycles under 1000cc at the Bonneville Salt Flats. This is not the reproduction used in the "The World's Fastest Indian" starring Anthony Hopkins, but the actual bike that set the record. Fortunately this is the second year of the Concours d'Elegance to feature motorcycles on the green. This year they featured the salt flat racers and their contribution to Hot Rodding. I was very lucky to see and hear this amazing piece of history. For more information about Burt Munro, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burt_Munro Or buy "The World's Fastest Indian" because it's a true story. It's one of my favorites, and surely will not disappoint any gear head. Anthony's perfectly cast for the role.

Historic vehicle Torpedo V4 1909
Motorcycle was made in a single copy in 1908-1909 by Trojan & Nagl, from Kolín. Probably has never been presented to the public and his fate isnt known. Unusual design of four-cylinder engine with capacity of 1600 ccm is given by doubling two-cylinder engine from the same brand. Only one low-quality photo survived from theese times and it was used to build a replica.

A true, unrestored "barn find", it won the Best of Show award. Check out my other videos, and please leave a comment. I'd like to hear from you.
