2012 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach
Long Beach, CA. (Apr. 15). After starting in eighth position, Team Falken
Tire finished 6th in the GT class today in the Tequila Patron American Le
Mans Series at Long Beach, a home track for the Fontana based team. The
team entered the weekend hoping for a second straight street course win on
the 1.968 mile track, with the previous win being on the streets of
Baltimore last season. With their unbeatable rain tire set up, the team
conquered the charts in the rain-filled practice session and qualifying
session on Friday. However, the weather conditions resulted in the
qualifying session results to be abandoned, forcing the team to give up the
pole position and start the race based on their position in the
championship point standings.
Dai's 2012 Drift Test at Willow Springs
Coming off a dominating 2011 season in which Team Falken driver Daijiro
Yoshihara¸ competing in the Discount Tire/Falken Tire S13, became the
Formula Drift Champion, the high performance tire manufacturer will be
gunning for a repeat performance of last year. The cars will be unveiled
this weekend on the streets of Long Beach for the opening event of the 2012
Formula Drift season.
Falken's First 2011 ALMS Porsche Win
Team Falken Tire survived the storm that hit Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course 30
minutes before the finish and took top honors in GT class for the first
time in the performance tire manufacturer's three-year ALMS career.
Derrick Walker, Falken's ALMS Team Manager, made the comment after
previously expressing confidence in Falken's capability at Mid-Ohio, a
track he knows very well from years of competing as a manager and owner of
Credit also went to Falken's two team drivers, Porsche works driver Wolf
Henzler, and his partner, Bryan Sellers, who persevered through the race on
a track notoriously tough on tires. Sellers qualified 9th and expressed
disappointment with the position, considering Falken has finished in fifth
place the last two races. However, Sellers started the race and started
moving forward until he was hit from behind by the #04 Ford GT, which
dropped the Porsche to 12th. The veteran driver fought hard and turned the
car over to his teammate in 10th. Henzler entered the race and gradually
moved to 7th place in GT, remaining there for a good portion of the race.

Leo Parente and ShakeDown look into the meaning of the Sept 5, 2012 Press
Conference announcing the joining of NASCAR's Grand-Am series with IMSA's
American Le Mans Series. The 4 leaders of the 2 groups didn't say much
about specifics, but said a lot as to intentions. The success of this
venture will be in the details. Both the leaders and ShakeDown call on the
fans and racing experts to provide input to make this new path great.
The future of North American Sports Car Racing is at stake. Respecting that
his new team needs time to forge its plan, ShakeDown, with this video,
takes its 'out lap' into this new G-A / ALMS world somewhat gently. But,
like everything in racing, time will tell the difference. And the clock is
ticking to Daytona24, January 2014.
