The Ferocia is my latest concept car and second stab at a Ferrari (after the Velocita). I decided to raise the design bar with the Ferocia after the 2012 Velocita lacked soul in it's design. And after more than a month of designing, revising, critiquing and 3D modelling I present the 630 Ferocia! The Ferocia is the big brother of the 458 Italia and takes many features of design over from that car, but in it's own way. It runs on a properly monstrous 630hp V10. It stampedes from 0-60 in 3.3 seconds and has a top speed of almost 210mph. The Ferocia is built to be ferocious, leading to it's name (Ferocia - Ferocity in Italian). Seoul's Hongik University wins Ferrari World Design Contest 2011
Maranello, 19th July 2011 -- Students from Seoul's Hongik University have
won the Ferrari World Design Contest, a competition in which 50 highly
prestigious universities across the globe took up Ferrari's challenge of
imagining its cars of the future. The Korean school was chosen ahead of the
second-placed IED of Turin in the final with London's Royal College of Arts
finishing in third position.
The first three classified models are:
1) Eternità -- Kim Cheong Ju (Korea Rep.), Ahn Dre (Korea Rep.), Lee
Sahngseok (Korea Rep.) -- Hongik University (Seoul)
2) Xezri -- Samir Sadikhov (Azerbaigian) -- IED (Turin)
3) Cavallo Bianco -- Henry Cloke (Regno Unito), Qi Haitao (Cina) -- RCA
Following the prize-giving ceremony, Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo
commented: "Nurturing the creativity of young people is a fundamental
strategy in every walk of life. The Ferrari World Design Contest represents
a window that we want to keep open on the world and the creative energy of
the next generation. I saw at first hand the many genuinely innovative
ideas that these talented youngsters sent us and could feel the enormous
passion and commitment that had gone into them. I am certain that some of
these suggestions will come to light in the Ferraris of the future."
The Seoul students provided the finest interpretation of Ferrari's design
brief for a thoroughbred hypercar brimming with new generation technologies
and materials, a car extreme ("hyper") not only in its architecture but
also in every other aspect. Having completed an initial 2D design, the
entrants then generated 3D models in 3D Autodesk® Alias as well as making
a physical 1:4 scale model with particular emphasis on detailing and the
car interior in addition to more functional concerns.
All of the design concepts focused on reducing fuel consumption through
alternative propulsion systems, particularly hybrid engines. Another common
thread was the Boosting of driving
pleasure through weight reduction. More geometric forms alternated with
sinuous, almost organic lines in the various design projects.
There were also two special prizes. The "Autodesk Design Award", for the
best use of Alias software in the design process, was presented by the
technical partner to the contest to Hongik school. The second prize, the
"Most Unexpected Technological Solution" award, went to the team from
Jiangnan University (China) for the audacious technical solutions contained
in The Drake concept. The prizes were presented by Brenda Discher,
Autodesk's Vice President Industry Market, and Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa.
The three finalists, however, received their prizes from Ferrari chairman
Luca di Montezemolo, CEO Amedeo Felisa, Paolo Pininfarina, chairman of the
Pininfarina Group which has partnered Ferrari in the styling of its cars
for over six decades, and Flavio Manzoni, director of the Ferrari Style
Centre, which organised the contest.

Because the central display moves to the place of the instruments, the
passenger gets his own interface with the passenger information display.
Detached from both of the drivers’ displays the passenger gets his own
area of information.
This is unmatched by anything out there. The concepts windshield acts as a
screen for a three-dimensional heads-up display. Passengers also get their
own display with nav and music info, which can then be sent to the driver's
attention with the press of a button. The german automaker is also

BMWs, including connectivity with your smart phone, a concierge service and

In the last scenario we find ourselves back in town. Together with your
passenger, you are driving along busy streets. The navigation system is
activated. Via the three-dimensional Head-Up Display, you have all the
information relevant to the journey such as speed, fuel consumption and
navigational details directly in your field of view. Thanks to the
augmented reality feature, the navigational details appear to be on the
street itself and show you the way forward. In addition, the freely
programmable instrument cluster displays a two-dimensional map of your
surroundings, with your route highlighted upon it. Your passenger is
watching a film on the Passenger Information Display in front of him. All
the while, the sensory system constantly scans the space around the vehicle
and along the chosen route.
Caution! Several sets of traffic lights on your route have just failed. The
vehicle immediately projects a warning directly into your field of view on
the Head-Up Display. Simultaneously, the instrument cluster provides you
with a map of the affected area, showing in detail precisely which traffic
lights along your route are out of operation. The warning also stops the
film playing on the passenger's display so that nothing will distract you
from the hazard ahead. In all the situations in which BMW ConnectedDrive
issues a warning, the fundamental principle is that warnings have priority
over any other information. This gives you the best possible opportunity to
grasp the situation, evaluate it and react appropriately. After the initial
urgent warning, the warning icon moves off to the side, reminding you to
pay greater attention than usual while continuing your journey. The film
resumes where it stopped.
Making the invisible visible - sensors that can see around corners.
Just before the road junction with the first set of failed traffic lights,
a new warning appears: danger of collision! Even before the road junction
comes into view, your vehicle has exchanged information with other road
users on the route ahead and has recognised a potentially dangerous
situation. A car is approaching the road junction from the left at full
speed even though it does not have right of way. If both vehicles maintain
their present courses and speeds, a collision is likely. Your vehicle
immediately makes you aware of the probable collision on the Head-Up
Display and highlights the approaching car on a map on the instrument
cluster. Again, the film on the passenger's display is stopped. As soon as
the other car comes into view, it will be highlighted by an augmented
reality outline. This gives you the opportunity to brake in time, let the
other vehicle pass and to avoid a possible accident.
Further along the route, suddenly a vehicle unexpectedly emerges from a
parking spot on your right. The sensory system immediately registers this
and shows the emerging vehicle as a hazard in the Head-Up Display. The
brakes are automatically applied, reducing your speed, and the minor jolt
prompts you to deal with the situation yourself and to either continue
braking or to take evasive action. Since the peripheral scan has shown that
avoiding action will not be dangerous, the vehicle simultaneously makes an
avoidance suggestion on both displays in the form of an arrow positioned
over the lanes in the road. Displaying the options available in augmented
reality allows the driver to quickly grasp the situation so that he can
react intuitively, promptly and appropriately.
The central area of safety symbolises the interaction between the driver
and the environment with active safety measures such as driver assistance
systems. These are features that enable the vehicle to pass information
relevant to safety on to the driver.

Here is a short clip showing the SLR McLaren Roadster owned by the owner of
Platinum Motorsports in Hollywood, California. When Jack bought the car he
wanted it to be unique so right away they developed a body kit for the car
which includes all sorts of carbon fiber bits, They installed a new front
lip, rear diffuser, a bigger lip for the wing and air brake, and carbon
fiber vents. To give the car a better stance they put on a set of rims and
lowered the car. It looks absolutely insane in person!

After the Greenwich Concours in Connecticut a lot of the cars get trailered
off back to their garages but the Ferrari P4/5 was driven home by its owner
Jim Glickenhaus. This is the only example of this car in the world! It is
based off of the Ferrari Enzo with a different body among other things on
the car. It is a treat to see this car being driven. Enjoy! :)
