Duramax Diesel Exhaust After-Treatment System

Weber State University - Advanced Vehicle Systems Lab. A brief description and summary of the diesel Exhaust after-treatment system of the 2011 - 2012 GM Duramax equipped trucks. This systems allows the engine power to be increased substantially (765 lb*ft) while meeting the EPA 2010 Tier-4 emissions standards for diesels. This truck has a Ultra-low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) certification. Higher compression ratios, higher turbo Boost pressures, and higher combustion temperatures can be used to increase engine power which also results in reduced particulate matter and higher NOx emissions. Most diesel truck engine manufacturers are using this system because with the addition of a Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) injector in the Exhaust system with a Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) system, the majority of the NOx emissions can be neutralized. These systems still use a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) which requires regeneration, but at less frequent intervals than with the 2007 EPA emissions standards. This is a great system, however, you must add diesel Exhaust fluid or the engine controller will eventually prevent you from driving. http://www.weber.edu/automotive This video was created and edited by John D. The How to on DPF Delete Kits, Tuners and Pipes - www.DPFRacing.com
http://www.DPFRacing.com - How Diesel Particulate Filters Rob Performance: A Diesel Particulate Filter, or DPF, is a device designed to collect diesel particulate matter or soot from the Exhaust gas of a diesel engine. When the filter gets clogged, it triggers a "regeneration cycle". This cycle floods the catalytic converter full of diesel fuel and then ignites the fuel to burn off the trapped soot. This is what causes the reduction in power and drivability of the vehicle. In addition, any unburned fuel ends up in the crankcase mixed with the engine oil. Furthermore, excessive soot backs up into the turbo, requiring mandatory maintenance or damage will occur. Eventually, after 50,000 to 100,000 miles, the DPF will need to be replaced at the cost of approximately $2000.00. The result...less mileage, reduced power, contaminated engine lubricants and increased maintenance costs. The DPF Delete Kit is the solution for 2007 or newer Ford 6.4L Powerstroke, GM / Chevy LMM 6.6L Duramax andDodge 6.7L Cummins Diesel engines. It combines two elements, the DPF Delete Pipe and the Diesel Race Tuner. The DPF Delete Pipe: DPF Racing's newest in-house engineered product, the DPF delete race pipe, is a direct bolt on replacement that totally eliminates the factory Diesel Particulate Filter. All pipes are precisely manufactured with exacting tolerances out of high quality stainless steel for longevity. The Diesel Race Tuner: Diesel race tuners in DPF equipped diesel pickup trucks will suppress the "regeneration cycle," without any "check engine" codes. The DPF Delete Pipe and Tuner allows the diesel pickup truck engine to regain the full horsepower, torque potential and reliability that diesel pickup trucks are known for.

Performance Diesel Exhaust on TruckU
Anyone who hauls anything with a stock turbo can run into high EGT's(Exhaust Gas Temperatures). Matt and Bruno show you how to get cooler airflow through the engine with Exhaust and Methanol Injection.

DEF Frustration!!!
Working on my buddy's 2011 Duramax with a DEF problem. He already installed a tuner voiding the warranty, so the dealer wouldn't cover it. I told him he needs to just delete all that garbage.
