2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo Review : MPGomatic
MPGomatic.com puts a six-speed manual 2013 Hyundai Veloster turbo to a grueling 500+ mile test drive. We
switched things up a bit with this review, and have included a demo of the
Blue Max and Eco-Coach features along with our usual 0-60 MPH and fuel
economy testing. It's in HD, as well. :) Big screen and Big MPGs, woo hoo!
The Hyundai Veloster turbo is equipped
with a turbocharged 16-valve Dual-CVVT
1.6-liter inline four-cylinder engine producing 201 horsepower and 195 pound
feet of torque. The intercooled and gasoline direct-injected (GDI) four
banger cranks out more than sixty HP and seventy pound feet of torque over
the naturally-aspirated 2012 Veloster we tested earlier this year.
A six-speed manual transmission is standard in the Veloster turbo, while a six-speed automatic is optional.

2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo: Custom Magnaflow 12886 Exhaust -- Part 1 (In Car Exhaust Sound clip)
As with most others in the various Veloster forums, I too wanted to upgrade
the wimpy stock Exhaust to free up the
Exhaust and avoid any raspy (and/or
drone) which some others have experienced when choosing the more popular
To save on costs, some of the factory stainless steel Exhaust pipes were retained. Primary mods were
made from the back of the flex pipe.
Stock resonator was removed, #12886 muffler was TIG welded in its place,
then next part was a new "Y" pipe that splits into 2x separate custom
bends/welds that run towards the rear Exhaust outlets.
Exhaust note is very deep upon full
throttle acceleration, or downshifting into a specific RPM range. Exhaust can be "intrusive" when hitting above
~2500RPM, but quickly quiets back down when once past ~2800RPM and up.
In cruising mode on highway @ 110KM/hr, Exhaust note is barely audible inside cabin.
Idle has nice rumble, similar to that of a small block.
I will do another follow up once the muffler set up is "settled-in".
Video recording device used: Samsung Galaxy Note mounted to dash-mounted
Galaxy Note Dock.
NOTE: some vibrations were evident during recording due to the USB charging
cable making contact with the dock.
I just noticed the sound recording is quite soft (low) and doesn't quite
capture the WOOT sound when driven hard. I will follow up with another
video when the weather gets better, however I thought this video may still
serve some use.
