The Duramax is a General Motors diesel engine family for light- and medium duty trucks, designed by Isuzu. The 6.6-liter Duramax is produced by DMAX, a joint venture between GM and Isuzu in Moraine, Ohio. This engine was initially installed in 2001 model year Chevy and GMC trucks and has been an option since then in pickups, vans, and medium-duty trucks. In 2006, production at Moraine was reportedly limited to approximately 200,000 engines per year.[1] On May 9, 2007, DMAX announced the production of the 1,000,000th Duramax V-8 diesel at its Moraine facility.[1] The LBZ (engine code "D") debuted in late 2006 and continued into 2007 sold only in the "classic" body style. It has an improved engine computer tune that produces increased power and torque over the 2005.5 LLY version of the motor. Changes include: Cylinder block casting and machining changes strengthen the bottom of the cylinder bores to support increased power and torque Upgraded main bearing material increases durability Revised piston design helps lower compression ratio to 16.8:1 from 17.5:1 Piston pin bore diameter increased for increased strength Connecting rod " I " section is thicker for increased strength Cylinder heads revised to accommodate lower compression and reduced cylinder firing pressure Maximum injection pressure increased from 23,000 psi (1,585.8 bar) to more than 26,000 psi (1,792.6 bar) Fuel delivered via higher-pressure pump, fuel rails, distribution lines and all-new, seven-hole fuel injectors Fuel injectors spray directly onto glow plugs, providing faster, better-quality starts and more complete cold-start combustion for reduced emissions Improved glow plugs heat up faster through an independent controller Revised variable-geometry turbocharger is aerodynamically more efficient to help deliver smooth and immediate response and lower emissions Air induction system re-tuned to enhance quietness EGR has larger cooler to bring more Exhaust into the system First application of new, 32-bit E35 controller, which adjusts and compensates for the fuel flow to bolster efficiency

MARS 5HP DIESEL ENGINE - 1st Start Up in 50 Years!
Watch as an early 1940's MARS Diesel engine is fired up after 50 years. Originally acquired from a cane farmer in Nambour, Queensland, Australia in the 1970's, this engine sat in careful custody with another three owners before finally retiring with me. MARS engines were made by the MARS Machine Tool Manufacturing Company in Brisbane, Australia and were preceded by the horizontal and vertical Rapson and Dutton engine, made by the same company under the Rapson and Dutton company name. MARS engines are not Lister clones. Mars engines are bigger, heavier and more robust than Lister engines. When you listen to a Lister and then to a MARS you will agree. This engine has a 3 " diameter crankshaft and not one component is interchangeable with a Lister. MARS engines were commonly used in industrial situations such as factories to power line shafts which powered a number of machines, a task Lister engines had some trouble with apparently with their crankshafts twisting under the load on start up, and why this company made the Mars Diesel. 5 HP MARS engines were painted Maroon colour as standard from the factory although there are variations of colour in existence. 8 HP engines were a different colour. This engine has not run since the original owner sold it in the early 1970's. Apparently it had not run for some years before that. The second owner sadly passed away before restoring it and it sat in a shed untouched with the third owner. Close friend and temporary fourth owner, Simon Devere, assisted actively in the mechanical restoration when I purchased it and assisted in the first start after its mechanical restoration. This man is a genius when it comes to diesel engines and he has the nickname "The Lister Whisperer" for good reason. Thanks "Slippery". This engine appears to have not done much work judging by its internals. Work to the engine includes new rings, liner/cylinder hone (the original factory liner had indiscernible wear in it), new valve guides made to original specs, new valves to original specs (original was bent and caused damage to the guide) , new big end Babbit bearing, new conrod bush, very light head machine to ensure true flatness, new internal oil pipes, new head gasket, new oil gaskets, new high pressure line, new welch plugs in the head and new oil pickup. There are still remnants of the original factory maroon paint on it that have survived the years of weathering out in the cane fields. Cosmetic restoration is planned shortly to bring it back to its original livery. It will be mated with a steel transporter to emphasise its industrial heritage and will be rallied with pride. Awesome V12 Monster diesel engine Awake and Alive startup The first V-type engine (a 2-cylinder vee twin) was built in 1889 by Daimler, to a design by Wilhelm Maybach. By 1903 V8 engines were being produced for motor boat racing by the Société Antoinette to designs by Léon Levavasseur, building on experience gained with in-line four-cylinder engines. In 1904, the Putney Motor Works completed a new V12 marine racing engine -- the first V12 engine produced for any purpose.[2] Known as the 'Craig-Dörwald' engine after Putney's founding partners, the engine mounted pairs of L-head cylinders at a 90 degree included angle on an aluminium crankcase, using the same cylinder pairs that powered the company's standard 2-cylinder car. A single camshaft mounted in the central vee operated the valves directly. As in many marine engines, the camshaft could be slid longitudinally to engage a second set of cams, giving valve timing that reversed the engine's rotation to achieve astern propulsion. "Starting is by pumping a charge into each cylinder and switching on the trembler coils. A sliding camshaft gave direct reversing. The camshaft has fluted webs and main bearings in graduated thickness from the largest at the flywheel end."[3] Displacing 1,119.9 cuin (18,352 cc) (bore and stroke of 4.875" x 5" (123.8 x 127 mm)), the engine weighed 950 pounds (430 kg) and developed 150 bhp (110 kW). Little is known of the engine's achievements in the 40-foot hull for which it was intended, while a scheme to use the engine to power heavy freight vehicles never came to fruition.[2] One V12 Dörwald marine engine was found still running in a Hong Kong junk in the late-1960s. Two more V12s appeared in the 1909-10 motor boat racing season. The Lamb Boat & Engine Company of Clinton, Iowa built a 1,558.6 cuin (25,541 cc (5.25" x 6" (133.4 x 152.4 mm)) engine for the company's 32-foot Lamb IV. It weighed in at 2,114 pounds (959 kg). No weight is known for the massive 3,463.6 cuin (56,758 cc) (7" x 7.5" (177.8 x 190.5 mm)) F-head engine built by the Orleans Motor Company. Output is quoted as "nearly 400 bhp (300 kW)". By 1914, when Panhard built two 2,356.2 cuin (38,611 cc) (5" x 10" (127 x 254 mm)) engines with four-valve cylinder heads the V12 was well established in motor boat racing.[2] In automobiles, V12 engines have not been common due to their complexity and cost. Obstacle Course, Hill Climb, and Coal Chute! - Top Truck Challenge 2013
Purchase the Top Truck Challenge DVD here! http://www.4wheelparts.com/search.aspx?kw=top+truck+challenge+dvd The Obstacle Course begins with a shockingly tall and long slippery hill descent known as the "first hill" and it ends with a nasty dogleg gully that's tantalizingly close to the finish line. In between is a treasure trove of terror. The "lower section" forces competitors to navigate a 360-degree turn through three deep water holes and sand. From there, competitors travel up a hill to the "upper section" that includes a deceiving off-camber U-turn (known as "U-turn Hill"), two deep water holes, and numerous tight turns. This event has a 10-minute time limit, but speed is the enemy. This is because the course is marked with numerous cones and each one hit adds 20 seconds to the overall time. If all four tires of a rig travel outside a cone the rig is disqualified at that point. Safety violations net a whopping two-minute penalty. Clearly, accuracy is the key to success in the Obstacle Course. Think back to those hillclimbs you've done in your 4x4. Yeah, the TTC Hill Climb isn't like that. The Hill Climb is built specifically for TTC, it's approximately 600 feet in length and it has an average angle of approximately 60 degrees. It twists and turns as it winds through the poison oak and it's peppered with strategically-placed deep holes and dirt hills. Yes, we added hills to our Hill Climb. The Hill Climb is loose, steep, and unpredictable. Naturally, we don't let drivers see it before they run it because that would ruin the surprise. The Hill Climb rewards those who can think on-the-fly and punishes those who are thinking about the next event. We allowed each competitor 5 minutes to tackle the hill and during that time they could stop, reverse, or winch. If a competitor exceeded the time limit, traveled out of bounds, or violated a safety rule they were disqualified at that point. The Mini Rubicon, a staple of Top Truck for years, was a brutal event that forced competitors to fight for every inch of forward progress. It was tough and unforgiving. We wanted something tougher. So, for 2013 we replaced the Mini Rubicon with the awe-inspiring Coal Chute. This event uses a newly developed area (Rock Rash Ridge) at the Hollister Hills SVRA that contains an amazing collection of man-made obstacles. Naturally, we tweaked it to make it exclusive to Top Truck. Our mind-bending course was approximately 525 feet in length, and included steep walls in excess of 7 feet tall and jumbles of rocks and cement tubes. We even brought in a water truck and created a waterfall on the final cement climb. The course was broken into four distinct sections. We threw competitors a curve ball and allowed them to skip one of the two first sections. However, we penalized each competitor 10 minutes if they bypassed the first section and 6 minutes if they bypassed the second section. Strategy was a major player at this event. There was a 20-minute time limit and safety violations netted a two-minute penalty. If two of the vehicles tires traveled outside of the cones the competitor was disqualified at that point.
