2015 Subaru WRX STI: The Daily Driver Rally Car Returns! - Ignition Ep. 107
On this episode of Ignition, Carlos Lago tests the latest generation of the perennial rally car favorite: The 2015 Subaru WRX STI. Much like the new WRX, this STI has an entirely new and significantly stiffer body structure, but unlike the WRX, it still uses the same 305 horsepower 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four that's powered the car since 2008. Our introduction to the car occurs at the press launch at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. From there, we test the STI to see the performance improvements and drive it on one of our favorite mountain roads. How does the new STI stack up? Stay tuned to find out. Ignition appears every other Monday on the Motor Trend youtube channel. http://www.youtube.com/motortrend Subscribe now to make sure you're in on all the action! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsAegdhiYLEoaFGuJFVrqFQ?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook - http://facebook.com/motortrendmag & https://www.facebook.com/mt.ignition Twitter - http://twitter.com/motortrend & https://twitter.com/mt_ignition Google+ - https://plus.google.com/+motortrend/posts Instagram - @mt_ignition Website - http://www.motortrend.com

2015 Subaru WRX: Subie's Latest Pocket Rocket Gets Put to the Test! - Ignition Ep. 102
On this episode of Ignition, Jonny Lieberman gets his hands on the latest generation Subaru WRX. First in America in late 2001 as a 2002 model, the WRX has long represented the democratization of performance. Cheap to buy and tune, but packed with enough power and handling goodness to rival much more expensive cars, the WRX has long been an enthusiast favorite. For 2015, the engine has been resized from 2.5-liters down to just 2.0-liters. Power is up, but so is weight, the manual transmission has more gears, the wagon is gone and what's up with a CVT? The big question is, however, is the latest iteration of the Subaru WRX as good as the ones that came before? Watch and find out! Subaru WRX STi vs Audi S3 Saloon
Does the new Subaru WRX STi live up to its predecessors - and can it match the new Audi S3 Saloon? Subscribe to our YouTube channel http://bit.ly/11Ad1j1 Subscribe to the mag http://subscribe.autoexpress.co.uk/yt The Subaru WRX STi and Audi S3 Saloon may not seem like obvious rivals, but both have the same power output and distant rally heritage to call upon for their performance kudos. At £33,245 with a six-speed manual gearbox, the Audi S3 is more expensive than the Subaru, but the £28,995 WRX clearly doesn't have the premium badge and upmarket cabin of its Audi rival. With 407Nm, the Subaru has a fraction more torque than the 380Nm Audi, but it's where that torque arrives that really makes the difference. In the Subaru you've got to wait until 4,000rpm to get peak torque, whereas in the punchy Audi it arrives at just 1,800rpm. These cars have got very different characters. There was a time when we thought the new WRX wasn't going to come to the UK but fast Subaru fans can relax - it's finally here. In an age when cars are accused of all looking and feeling the same, there's no doubting that a WRX doesn't feel or look like anything else on the road. Performance car fans will forgive the Subaru's cabin because this car is all about the driving experience and if you've driven a WRX before then this new car will feel very familiar. First of all the boxer engine sounds the same, you've got that unique sound from about 4,000rpm as you start to work it hard. You've got a gearbox that's got quite a short shift on each change, with a slightly notchy, quite mechanical feel, and the steering is very fast but at the same time quite light - which can be a bit disconcerting. It's also got quite aggressive self-centring, but once you get used to it you realise that that's a contributing factor to what makes this car feel so agile. This is a car that you really will enjoy on the average British road. The first thing you notice is when you get into the Audi S3 is the upmarket interior is in a different league to the Subaru. It's a real contrast to the dated cabin of the Subaru. The driving experience is completely different, too. Where the Subaru is really vigorous all the time, the Audi is very relaxed: it drives like any other well-sorted fast Audi. But the performance is there: it's got the same power as the Subaru's engine. In the Audi you've got really instant power all the time so you don't feel like you've got to work the engine so hard. And the handling's pretty accomplished as well. The steering's not as sharp and the way that the diffs work is not as aggressive but there's plenty of traction, decent body control and the car turns in nicely. It's not a thrilling car on a road like this but it's just very accomplished. Off the line, both cars have superb traction, but the Audi is nearly 100Kg lighter than the Subaru, and that shows by the time we reach 60mph. The S3 punches to 60 in 5.4 seconds, whereas the Subaru is 2 tenths behind at 5.6 seconds. So which car comes out on top in our test? Well, Subaru fans will love the sound of the WRX's boxer engine and the car's unique character. But the Audi has a much nicer cabin, it was faster in the drag race and it's a nicer car to live with day-to-day. Yes, it's more expensive, but if you want a fast, comfortable and stylish performance saloon, the Audi S3 is the one for us.

2015 Subaru WRX Sedan - WR TV POV Test Drive
We quickly became fans of the new WRX once we got a chance to review the car late last year: http://www.windingroad.com/articles/reviews/driven-2015-subaru-wrx/ Our only regret from the time we spent with the ‘Rex was that we didn’t get a chance to capture the driving experience on the video. This week, we’re finally able to remedy that issue with this Limited trim example, which is coated in Crystal White Pearl paint. In terms of motivation, the new WRX gets a new direct-injected 2.0-liter motor based off the unit used in the BRZ. However, unlike the BRZ, this mill gets a twin-scroll turbocharger and Intercooler, which results in 268 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 258 lb.-ft. peak torque at 2,000-5,200 rpm. While a CVT is now optional on the WRX, our tester today is equipped with the fan-favorite six-speed manual gearbox. Inside, a 4.3-inch LCD screen atop the center stack provides various information including performance data, audio and Bluetooth info, and also serves as a backup camera, while a new, flat-bottomed telescoping steering wheel offers integrated audio and cruise controls. The range-topping Limited model also includes leather-trimmed upholstery, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and automatic low-beam LED headlights. Engine: 4-cylinder, horizontally opposed, turbocharged/intercooled Output: 268 hp/258 lb-ft Weight: 3,267 lbs. (6-speed manual) / 3,433 lbs. (Sport Lineartronic) Fuel Economy, 21/28/24 (6-speed manual) / 19/25/21 (Sport Lineartronic) On Sale: April 2014 Wear headphones! The audio in this video was recorded with in-ear binaural microphones. With headphones or earbuds on, you'll feel like you're actually sitting in the driver's seat.
