Part 1 of a video I shot of a 2001 Audi allroad quattro that I reviewed for the Audi Club North America in January of 2001. The allroad was from Audi's press fleet.
This was filmed in the Utah desert, west of the Great Salt Lake. Nothing too exciting happens, but was kind of interesting when the allroad was a new vehicle on the market.
This, and Part 2, were the first time I tried my hand at shooting and editing video.
Audi allroad quattro - light offroad - Part 2
Video of a 2001 Audi allroad quattro that I reviewed for the Audi Club
North America in January of 2001. The allroad was from Audi's press fleet.
This was filmed in the foothills near Salt Lake City, Utah. Nothing too
exciting happens, but was kind of interesting when the allroad was a new

Watch for the professional editing job when the day goes from bright and
sunny to overcast in a blink of an eye. ;) This, and Part 1, were the first

2014 Audi R8 V10 | Review | Test Drive | Audi R8 | Continental Audi
For 2014, the R8 V-10 gains a new Plus model. Not to be confused with the
ladies in a Lane Bryant ad, Plus here refers to the extra 25 horsepower that Audi coaxed
from the 5.2-liter V-10. Basically, it's the Lamborghini-grade unit found
in the Gallardo LP560-4. Firmer springs and dampers, inspired by the
rarely-seen-outside-captivity R8 GT, are seriously stiff, bordering on
annoyingly bouncy. We'd much rather live with the standard R8's supple
But the biggest change is the newly available seven-speed dual-clutch
automatic called S tronic. A $7800 option on all R8s, it replaces the
clunky automated-manual transmission known as the R tronic. With the S,
part-throttle upshifts are free of any twitchiness, giving the auto R8 the
manners to live in traffic. For maximum acceleration, the S tronic offers
launch control that holds the engine at 4500 rpm before engaging the
first-gear clutch. The R8's owner's manual suggests finding a clear, empty
road before using launch control, as it might cause unwanted attention.
Good advice. Accelerating from zero to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds with the
quarter-mile passing in 11.4 seconds at 126 mph certainly got our
attention. That's two-tenths quicker to 60 and in the quarter than the
525-hp R8 R tronic we previously tested.
Trying to break an Audi allroad in half
So I go away for what I thought was a relaxing Easter weekend on a farm in
the Cederberg with some friends. Turns out the farmer is a 4x4 buff and has
laid out a challenging technical course... He was very keen to see what my
allroad could do - and so was I!
Unfortunately I was too busy driving and trying to keep up with him to get
much footage, but for this obstacle I asked the farmer's neighbour to video
me going into and out of a ditch to test suspension and traction control...
I struggled on some of the slow steep sandy sections (wrong tyres!) but was
pleased a couple of days later when he had some visitors from the Cape Town
Landrover Club - and they couldn't do those sections either!
Well I did read somewhere that the Audi allroad is the only all-wheel drive
"softroader" that has successfully completed the Landrover proving grounds
