John's Sky Redline V8 Swap/Makeover
(Edit 9/17/16)... THANKS for all the nice comments!!! I still daily drive the car and still absolutely love driving it! I think I have about 20k miles since the LSA swap. NO failures or issues, everything has been performing beyond even my expectations. The biggest change since this video is I built a 21 gallon fuel cell into the car with dual digitally controlled pumps. I've been running full E85 for about 15k of the 20k miles, power is up to between 725-750whp/wtq. Driveability is smoother than most cars with 1/4 the power, I've let dozens of people drive the car with no issues or fear of disaster! The rear diff is still holding up fine and if anything, I wish it had LESS traction from the widened stock wheels running 285/40/18 Conti DW's! It seriously hooks up too much to have fun sometimes. And that's with NO traction control. I never enabled the CTS/V traction/stability control system when I did the swap and I never will. The car is TOTALLY driveable without traction or stability control interfering. The ABS still works perfectly with the big brakes though, that I wouldn't do without. The other change I made was to re-do the onboard PC computer system. I rebuilt the console to accept a 12.3" Surface Pro 4 touchscreen tablet. The huge screen and power of the new computer is awesome! Between the computer, security camera and dash camera, the car has 5 onboard HD cameras watching everything and everyone in and around it! lol. Thanks again for all the nice comments and the 20k views! I know an 18 minute video is REALLY long for people to click on so I'm very happy with how many people have watched the whole thing. John (Edit 11/23/15)... YouTube turned the soundtrack back on, I have no idea why. Enjoy! (Edit 8/7/15)... This video had some really cool music in it but the owner of one of the songs evidently didn't want it used in my little video so YouTube turned off the audio track. I edited the video, removing and replacing the one song clip with one that is allowed to be played on YouTube. Other than that, the video is pretty much the same except that I did add a couple very short clips at the end. The sound track really does make this video more fun to watch, please go to my other video version of this to watch it will the full audio enabled. Here's the link...https://youtu.be/qaH8y9Irthk THANKS!!!! Finally bent the stock rods on the turbo 4 LNF so I decided to rebuild the entire car with a CTS-V 6.2L Supercharged LSA. Happily the rods bending didn't hurt the engine at all. I rebuilt the LNF with new forged rods and it's now running again in a Pirelli World Challenge GTS car. The transmission is in a "Lemons" car and my entire EFR turbo setup is in a gal's Sky in Texas that has already been featured in a magazine. My son grabbed the rest of the LNF goodies I had on the car for his own awesome Sky Redline. The parts I sold off the car more than paid for the entire new LSA crate motor! I'm not sure there's a single part of this car I didn't have apart or modified in some way! It took roughly a year from start to finish since I do have an actual 40 hour a week job. Lots of late nights after work and weekends to do the build. I knew after the first 30 seconds driving the car that all the hard work would absolutely be worth it! I've put about 4000 miles on it in the last couple months, I just can't stop driving the car! Enjoy the video! Sorry it's a little long but I think you'll all enjoy every minute of it. Especially towards the end! Feel free to comment even if you think it sucks and is boring! BTW, I know the frames go by kinda quickly, it was either that or it was gonna end up being a 45minute video. You can always stop it or go back if you miss something or didn't have time to read the labels. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH for watching the full 18 minutes! I hope it was entertaining and encourages all of you in your own goals or projects.
LS3 V8 conversion #2
my website: www.rickcperry.com for audio related. This is #2 conversion that I did while working at DDM Works. Dave and I designed this conversion and it's one heck of a ride.
