2007 Solar Drag Race
A new world record was set by the South Whidbey High School Solar Drag Race Team on June 23,2007, at the annual Solar Drag Race. Every summer, on the Saturday nearest the solstice, the race is held over a 1/4 kilometer course at the Confluence Technology Center in Wenatchee, Washington, USA. Only solar energy is allowed, no batteries or pre-charged energy storage is permitted. The record time of 29.5 seconds resulted in a top speed of 25 mph.
