Starting a 42 Harley UL
I've been riding old Harleys for over 30 years and have found that this
method of starting works the best for me.
3 x US army Harley Davidson WLA Liberator WW 2 + siren !!
I just met some survivors of the second world war , as you know the US army
used H.D. or harley's to liberate Europe from Adolf Hitler , only on these
machines the guns are not allowed in Holland , so a bit fake. ( harley

Built in 1944, but still going strong. This Harley was delivered to Greece
under te Lend-Lease Act. In Greece the Harley's were stored on a pile as
scrap on a deserted airfield. In the late 1970's a smart dutchman bought
the whole pile as scrap en had it transported to Holland. There all the
bikes were placed in a big hall and sold. You could just pick one, pay hfl
3000 (appr. USD 1400) and go home with a complete motorcycle, just as it
was in WW2 . Of course I bought one, put new tires on it and a new battery,
fresh oil and petrol and it was ready for the road. I have it for more then
30 years now....

Original large decal stuck on the oil tank!
"This decal may have been applied to the oil tank of late production bikes,
or it was stuck onto the tank once the bike was sold as surplus after the
end of WW2" (from: http://www.theliberator.be).

This Harley-Davidson, 42WLA, Model VII motorcycle was restored back to it's
factory state as it was in 1945. On its way to Russia, Victory in Europe
happened, sold as surplus, It was found in a chicken coop in Montana in
1993, not able to run, missing many parts and in desperate need of help.
Rescued from the coop, the motorcycle was put in storage. Then in January
of 2009 restoration began, as each part was restored, placed in a box and
stored once again, 3 speed tranny and 45 cu. in. engine rebuilt.until all
the parts were finished . Then in June of 2012 the motorcycle was
assembled in a 36 hour time period. Watch the time lapse video as it goes

Wearing the requisite Olive Drab paint, these were 45-cubic-inch V-twins
fitted with special equipment for wartime use. Items such as an ammo box,
machine-gun scabbard, and rear carrier are obvious; less so are the special
"blackout lights" front and rear that projected only a small sliver of
light in an effort to avoid detection.
In all, roughly 80,000 WLAs were built, many being sold as surplus after
Harley Davidson WLC time-lapse restoration
We had located this Harley Davidson WLC in Europe - it was barely running
and whoever had tried to restore or maintain it had done a pretty poor job.
Nearly every part and component was incorrect and only seemed to get worse
the more we took it to pieces. However as you will see, with our depth of
knowledge and expertise we were able to restore and refurbish the bike and
rebuild the engine and gearbox back to the highest standard.
We had already sold the bike before we commenced the restoration, so when
it was finished we then dressed it as per our clients requirements.
We chose this restoration as our first time-lapse project as we knew that
the time to complete the job was the shortest. The filming took place over
the period of about 1 month in the Autumn of 2013 at our workshop in West
