JCG Restorations 1968 Camaro -- /BIG MUSCLE
Tucked away in a small industrial park in Oxnard, CA sits JCG Restorations & Customs, a moderately sized shop that has built some of the best performing pro-touring cars that we've ever driven. Now generally we don't focus in on shops, however when the owners of three of our best test cars start dropping names, we tend to listen. Originally we descended on JCG to drive Blu Balz, a stunning 1968 Camaro owned by one Karl Dunn. However since Mother Nature decided to water the Earth that day, we put our original plans on hold and got shop owner Cris Gonzalez to give us the in's and out's of what it takes to make a stellar pro-touring car.





1969 Camaro RS/SS First Start up in 28 Years
Working on getting my dads new project car, a 69 Camaro started after sitting for 28 years untouched and uncovered in an Anchorage, Alaska back yard. It was originally a big block/4speed car but was swapped to a 327 in the early 80's. The engine was covered in leafs, moss and debris and had no air cleaner, headers or half the spark plugs when we got it. The car has been parked since 1984, watch to see if we get it going! Don't pay any attention to the Z28 badges someone added those long ago and it was originally Daytona Yellow not white. More details coming soon....

This coupe's original gear slinger, which hangs a Muncie 4-speed (P) assembled on March (C ) 12th (12), 1968 (8) assembly stamp in front of a correct 424402 partial VIN, spins a stout 12-bolt rear end around big, 4.10 gears. That first-rate drivetrain is held off the ground by a completely rebuilt, high performance suspension, which includes 4-piston, Corvette-style brakes, tuned front coils, multi-leaf rears and reproduction shocks. And that suspension rolls on 15-inch Rally wheels, which spin E70-15 Goodyear Wide Tread GTs around correct stainless center caps and dent-free trim rings. The Standard Black interior hiding behind this car's small bronze doors illustrates the true, no frills intentions of Chevrolet's hallowed Z/28. Its bucket seats were restored with new backs, new foam and reproduction covers that look and feel fantastic. In front of those seats a wood-lined dash, which exhibits no signs of warping or peeling, hangs rebuilt telemetry above a vintage Delco radio. At the base of that dash, great looking carpet centers a chrome Hurst shifter between four color-keyed floor mats. And in front of the driver, Chevrolet's classy Rosewood steering wheel spins satin spokes around a red, white and blue centerpiece.
