In 2012 the series originally planned to move away from exclusive use of GT1 cars by allowing 2009-spec GT2 from the former FIA GT Championship as well as current performance balanced GT3 specification cars to compete alongside the series' current GT1 cars. However as there were no interested GT2 teams and only a handful of former GT1 runners were willing to participate, the SRO decided that the 2012 season would be contested with GT3-spec cars only (yet retaining GT1 in the series' title). All vehices will be performance balanced with weight and restrictor adjustments to make different makes artificially more equal. Portugal - Portimao GT1 Championship Event Highlights 08/07/12 Having secured their first win of the 2012 season in yesterday's Qualifying Race, the ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport Mercedes team recorded a one-two in the Championship Race at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal. 
The No.37 Mercedes SLS AMG of Nicky Pastorelli (NLD) and Thomas Jäger (DEU) grabbed the win after a hard-fought battle with their German team-mates Marc Basseng and Markus Winkelhock. Basseng and Winkelhock had taken the Qualifying Race victory the previous day to round out a perfect weekend for the Saxony-based team. It also meant that Mercedes became the fifth different brand to win a Championship Race in 2012 after Audi (France), Porsche (Belgium), McLaren (Spain) and BMW (Slovakia). 2012 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 In Action On The Track
During the 1st round of the 2012 Blancpain Endurance Series at Monza Circuit I recorded the new Nissan GT-R R35 properly modified to run in the GT3 class. I really love the look of this car but unfortunately the sound is a bit too low to be heard while racing with other and noisier GT3 cars.
