67-68 Cougar Buying Guide: What To Look For
In this video, Don does a detailed inspection on a 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7
to show some of the things you should look for when buying one of these
classic cars. Some of the insight here can potentially save you hundreds,
even thousands, when you go to negotiate with a seller. Also, it will help
those of you trying to sell, to more accurately advertise the strengths and
weaknesses of your car.
We've also done a similar video with a 1970 Cougar convertible, so you may
want to check that out too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fizb2vo68vA

1967 Mercury Cougar XR7 Dan Gurney Special- For Sale - Ebay
1967 Cougar XR7, Dan Gurney Special. I am the 3rd owner of this car. First
owner purchased car new in Petersburg, VA. Vehicle was sold in 1990 to
second owner eo lives in Mechanicsvile, VA. The second owner was a Ford
service mechanic. He replaced the original engine with a freshly rebuilt
5.0 Liter HO engine from a 1987 Mustang. He also installed a 9 inch
rear and disc brakes on all four wheels. Installed power adjustable front
seats, CD/radio, electric antenna, alarm system, and cruise control as
well. All components were replaced in order to make this car a reliable
long distance driver. He wanted to be able to drive this car anywhere.
Car rides smooth on the the interstate at 75 MPH. Just a solid car all
around. Garage kept since 1990. Second owner sold because he lost his
license due to his age and car was just not being driven.
Car just inspected and has has a valid Virginia November inspection and a
clear title. Since purchasing I have replaced the rear shocks, master
cylinder, Booster, tires, and
wheels. Car has been repainted it's original color Jamaican yellow earlier
this year. Engine has approximately 11,000 miles on rebuild. I have the
original seats, original radio, original clock, original spare tire, and
the Marti report for this car. Everything works except for AC and clock.
Told AC needs recharging, we just have not followed up to correct. All
lights work (think we may have one light of three missing on the right turn
signal, did not catch until we took this video, will fix), vaccum
headlights, sequential taillights, gauges, warning lights, etc. This car
is a solid driver and fun to drive. Do not find many in this great of
shape. Can take this car anywhere. We initially bought car for our son to
drive to school but since car has no shoulder belts my wife felt it was a
safety issue so we are selling. Welcome to inspect and drive the car.
Will not be disappointed. If any questions feel free to call me at
804-314-7492. Ask for Steve.

Mercury Cougar - American Muscle Car
An excellent TV show featuring the classic Mercury Cougar. They cover all
the classic years, and talk about all the different engines and option
packages you could get. Only a couple minor mistakes (they say the that
XR-7 package included a 4-speed stick, then show an automatic shifter in
one... derrr) but overall a very nice overview of these cars.
The Story Of Cougar 1: The First Mercury Cougar
A while back, we sat down with Jim Pinkerton, the owner of the very first
production Mercury Cougar (1967 model year), a.k.a. Cougar 1. We hit the
"record" button on our cameras and he let loose with an epic tale of how
the car was first sold in Canada, its subsequent life there, and how it
eventually got into his hands - an intriguing story! He also goes over some
of the unique features of the car, and some of the restoration techniques
used. It's a truly beautiful factory show car with more attention to detail
than the 'average' Cougar.
Special thanks to Jim Pinkerton for his time, and for providing most of the
images you see in this video from his own collection of Cougar memorabilia.
