Subaru R-STi - JDM vs USDM: A Friendly Rivalry -- /TUNED
In the US, we never got the best Subaru of them all, the first generation
WRX coupe, getting stuck with the fun-but-not-fast 2.5RS version. One of
the more popular upgrades for those cars is the "R-STi" drivetrain swap. In
the season premiere of Tuned, we look at two approaches: the USDM
drivetrain swap, and the JDM drivetrain swap. Which is better? You decide.
1992 Subaru SVX Touring
1992 Subaru SVX Touring, which is the top trim level, also has custom
chromed wheels, the spoiler and pearl paint. It has only had 2 owners and
no accidents. Only 11,000 of these were made and this one looks like the
day it was new inside and out.
3.3L boxer engine
All wheel drive
new Michelin tires
A nice feature about the SVX on the speed channel
SVX Dyno run (stock)
Note: Okay, I later found out what was wrong with the car and some day I'm
gonna Dyno it again.
Local Subaru Club had a Dyno day and I decided to throw
my SVX on the rollers. Results are not even near of what they should be. I
don't what's wrong but on the road car feels responsive and accelerates as
it should. (Footage is crazy shaky because it was very cold a day to begin
with and then there was these huge blowers to cool the cars).
