Cougar XR7 3.8L Supercharged V6

3.8L Supercharged V6 In 1989 and for the first time in Cougar history, no V8 engine would be offered. The lower cowl of the new MN-12 chassis did not allow the traditional 5.0L to clear the hood; engineers would continue to work on getting the 5.0L to fit without a power decrease and finally get it into the cars for 1991. In the meantime, the base engine was the naturally-aspirated 140 HP 3.8L V6. The XR7 and the Thunderbird Super Coupe would receive the all-new supercharged 3.8L V6. By incorporating the Eaton M90 the motor put out a respectable 210 horsepower and over 300 lbs of torque. Optional on the XR7 was a Mazda-derived M5R2 5-speed manual transmission. The "truck" transmission was chosen because it could manage the supercharged motor's torque production. Eaton had been urging Ford to incorporate the modified Roots-type positive displacement pump since 1977. The 1989 and 1990 Cougar XR7 was winner when Ford finally decided to use it on the 3.8L V6.

Door Panel Backer Boards - How To Replace (1967-1970 Cougar)
Since door panels aren't reproduced for Cougars, good used originals are valuable. Sometimes, the front vinyl side is usable, but the backer boards are toast. Luckily, there's a solution. We now carry brand new, better-than-stock backer boards made from a more durable pressboard material. We have a version for 1967-1968 Cougars, as well as another version for 1969-1970 Cougars. See links below. In this video, we show you how to separate a vinyl door panel from its old backer board, repair the metal hanger piece, and reattach it and the vinyl to the new backer board. We also cover removal & replacement of the inner beltline strip (the felt-lined trim that touches the door glass). 1970 Torino Cobra 429CJ 4-Speed For Sale! (SOLD)

Video will be left up for posterity, and because it's awesome. eBay auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/181246173812 This listing is for my beloved 1970 429 CJ, Ford Torino Cobra with a factory 4-speed transmission. This car is unusual in that it came with manual drum brakes and manual steering. A friend of mine sold me this car just before he passed away several years ago. Max bought the car in the early 80's from the original owner (see documentation) so that makes me the third registered owner. The 429 CJ motor and transmission were completely rebuilt by Alderidge Motor Sports in Portland, OR. As the video attests to and the documentation shows, a top notch job was ordered and it runs out VERY strong. The drive-train has about 30,000 miles on it since the extensive rebuild and would need very little to be rated a 10. It does not have its numbers-matching block anymore, and the carburetor is an aftermarket Holley, incorrect numbered distributor and other minor details need attention or are not correct (see video). It has a VERY solid Western body and some very nice interior parts. Please watch the video for specifics as I go into much further detail there. For more information on this vehicle visit http://tinyurl.com/9fpv8je Ready for a different kind of pony car? Take a close look at this pristine 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator. Fresh out of a comprehensive restoration, this cat has and aggressive demeanor and plenty of power to back it up. Restored to factory specifications, the body panels are straight in true in every way. A coat of Ford's code N Pastel Blue covers the body, accented by the black body-length stripes courtesy of the Eliminator package. While the color may look white, there is a subtle blue tint that is guaranteed to make this Mercury stand out in the crowd. Panel fitment is also far superior to anything that left Ford's Dearborn plant in 1970. Other pieces of the Eliminator package include a front chin spoiler, blacked-out grilled, hood scoop, an air foil wing and discrete "Eliminator" decals. The glass appears to be original as does the stainless trim around it but both are in excellent condition overall. With its race-friendly look, this is very clearly no common Cougar. Under the hood, a familiar 290hp Boss 302 V8 provides more than enough motivation to push this cat around town. From the properly decaled single snorkel air cleaner to the date-code correct block, everything about the powerplant looks as it did when it left the factory. The engine fires immediately, idles well and has a menacing snarl to warn other drivers exactly what is beside. Beneath the car, a nicely detailed undercarriage consists of a factory chassis with factory-correct overspray gracing the rock solid floor fans. In the center, a Hurst-equipped Toploader 4-speed takes care of gear selection while a nodular Ford nine-inch differential with 3.91 gears puts the power the road. Steering is manual but braking is power assisted with discs in the front and drums out back. The chassis meets the road through Goodyear Polyglas tires wrapped around steel wheels topped with dog-dish hubcaps and chrome beauty rings. Between the doors, a Medium Blue interior is simple, comfortable and functional. The hi-back bucket seats are wrapped in Comfortweave vinyl and face a factory dashboard that houses the original instrumentation plus climate controls and an AM/FM stereo. With the exception of the aluminum Hurst shift handle, there are no frills to be found here. Behind the rear seat, the trunk features a correct mat, jack and spare tire. Documentation for this Cougar is strong with an original build sheet, dealer invoice and several records that spell out the car's full history. There is also a Marti Report that covers everything down to production dates. In this form, it's easy to imagine the Cougar as less of a sibling and more of a rival to the Mustang. just a little clip of my thunderbird with dual Exhaust, screamin demon ignition coil, bbk 25% underdrive pulley system, resonator delete, air intake, hypertech computer module, and runnning 5w-30 royal purple synthetic. the car has 40,000 miles on it please comment any more modifications that you would suggest. Thanks ***i have been getting a lot of questions on how i got that sick sound out of my V6, so i am not made of money so i did not want to buy some fancy Exhaust system that wouldn't really open up the Exhaust, so i took a jigsaw or reciprical saw and cut off the one stock muffler, and had just a cut off pipe right behind the left rear tire. this sounded a little crappy, so i took it to a little mexican muffler shop in melrose park,IL. and told them to put duals on with no mufflers. (straight pipes). i also bought a resonator substitute pipe off rockauto.com. so i have straight pipes from the cats back. and no i have never got pulled over and i still pass emission tests (my way of stickin it to the man!)
