Honda NSX Concept-GT
What if you are the only one who has the wrong tool to fight with, while
everyone else has something right? This is exactly the situation Honda is
about to face in the 2014 Super GT series.
Chassis of DTM is purely designed for FR racing cars - a chassis destined
to work when an engine is mounted on the front. But Honda will put engine
on the rear to make it MR, and even add a racing hybrid system to it. Why
do this? Most people think that Honda just wants to race with a vehicle of
features that their new NSX will have. Well, that's not everything.
The extreme kind of race cars, like the ones in Super GT or DTM, are almost
never built over their production model cars. An engineer of Nissan in
Super GT series says that the only real common part between GT500 GT-R and
the production R35 is the "door knob". All other parts of the vehicle are
mere imitation of the production model just to keep the resemblance. Race
cars in these categories are created with completely different materials,
developed by a different team, and built in a different factory. There
almost nothing in common between the two cars.
With that in mind, we are close to understanding what is Honda trying to do
with this NSX Concept-GT. Mount an engine on the rear of FR chassis, add a
hybrid racing system of their own, and still race trying to compete with
others with better condition. The race is not actually about the car
itself, but it is the place where manufactures and teams show their spirit
of challenge, test their own ideas and skills, to prove who is the best in
creating new things. If you are complaining about NSX Concept-GT having a
2.0L engine, or becoming smaller in size compared to HSV, you are only
seeing the surface of this race. I recommend that you go see a production
It's true that currently Honda is lacking lineup of sports cars. But it's
only about the production cars, and they have never abandoned their spirit
in racing. After 2009 when they stopped producing S2000, they came up with
HSV that does not exist anywhere in the world except on race track. They
fought equally to Toyota and Nissan and won series championship. Now with
the new NSX-GT in 2014, they will start a new story of challenge. Let's
not just see "what they make", but also see "how they think" to improve
their unique race car and fight against other manufactures. Hopefully in
the near future, they'll produce a new sports car filled with that spirit.

BMW M4 vs Audi RS5: epic track battle

The arrival of a new BMW M car is always big news for performance car fans,
and the new M4 is no exception.
Costing almost £60,000, the replacement for the legendary old BMW M3, the
M4 has moved away from the V8 power plant in the old car, and is now
powered by a 425bhp twin-turbocharged
Meanwhile, the similarly prices Audi RS5 is propelled by a 4.0-litre V8,
which produces 430bhp. It's also mated to the Audi quattro four-wheel drive
system. Like the BMW, it also features a dual-clutch gearbox, the Audi S
There's no denying the Audi lacks the fun factor of the BMW - the quattro
four-wheel-drive system prevents the lurid powerslides than you can really
go for in the M4. You can also feel the weight of the engine over the front
axle in the RS5, but it certainly doesn't feel slow at all.
Overall then, the RS5 feels very punchy, and the gearshift is also really
nice - the same can be said for its V8 soundtrack. It's not a track machine
though, and the car from Neckarsulm is more of a very stable and very rapid
Meanwhile, the BMW M4 feels very raw and very serious, especially when all
the settings are put at their sportiest via the M1 switch on the steering
wheel. These also turn the traction control and stability control off.
With no electronic aids, the M4 is always trying to get its tail out.
However, the body control is amazing, but there is a feeling that it's all
a bit artificial. The same can be said for the engine note, which has been
The M4 is a proper M car though, and something BMW can be truly proud of.
It set a lap time of 1m09.9s, compared to the 1m12.2s set by the Audi -
that's 2.3s quicker.
