GM's 1.4L Ecotec turbo airflow animation
2011 Chevrolet Cruze -- 40 + mpg highway and finally getting out ahead of
the competition with GM's homegrown hard work and good design.
Ecotec 1.4L turbo Airflow -- Almost 140
HP worth of performance from just 1.4L displacement thanks to turbo-charging.
Outside air is drawn into the intake air box by the turbocharger compressor wheel. The compressor
wheel is being driven by hot Exhaust
gases coming out of the Exhaust
manifold. The air is forced through an Intercooler by the compressor wheel and
then travels to the intake manifold. The intake manifold distributes the
air to the cylinders where fuel is added and the combustion process takes
place. A wastegate opens to regulate the compressor drive power by letting
excess Exhaust gases escape through
the Exhaust pipe.
The turbocharger's on-demand performance
in the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze is like having two engines in the same vehicle
-- one for fuel economy and one for power.
Proper sizing of the turbocharger allows
the small 1.4L engine to sip fuel under lighter driving conditions because
the extra turbo power, normally
associated with a larger sized engine, is held in reserve.
2011 Chevrolet Cruze 1.4T 0-60
I'm really getting tired of some of these comments. Seriously, comparing a
260HP Jetta GLI to a 140HP Cruze? Come on now. Face facts, the cruze is NOT
SUPPOSED TO BE FAST. It's supposed to be comfortable, and get good gas
mileage, which is what it does. Seriously.
My 2011 Chevy Cruze 1LT, with the 1.4L turbo (138HP @ 4900RPM, 148lb/ft @ 1850RPM.
Not the fastest in straight line acceleration, but it has a lot of torque
Cruze vs. G5 dig race hd
My stock 2LT RS Cruze vs my buddies girlfriend's somewhat stock G5. Cruze
had 4 adults in the car. G5 had two adults. Like I said Cruze is stock and
G5 has a magnaflow catback and gutted air box.
