On this episode of Roadkill, it's fun with Leaf Blowers. Experts on the Internet said it would never work. That's never stopped Freiburger and Finnegan, and this time on Roadkill the guys put the theory to the test: can hardware-store leaf blowers supercharge an engine and make power? Step one was buying a '78 Monza Spyder with a 305 V8 and a four-speed stick. Step two was to take it to the shop of HOT ROD Drag Week racer Jeff Lutz to tune it up, swap the engine to a 350, Dyno test it with five leaf blowers, and do a whole bunch of needless burnouts. Step three was to drive the Monza to Willmington, Ohio, for the East Coast Timing Association's Ohio Mile event, a standing-mile race where they'd find out if leaf-blower power adds up to more speed in the real world. This was incredibly loud. Louder than any guns I've shot, louder than being in the stands at a top-fuel drag race. Most intensely loud sound I've ever experienced. Anti-lag is designed so the engine doesn't fire the spark plug to light the air/fuel mixture until after the Exhaust valve is open, which results in the combustion not being contained, but exploding straight out into the turbo/Exhaust. This explosion imparts a huge amount of energy into the turbine wheel of the turbo, letting it reach the needed RPM to make the desired Boost level very rapidly.

Bee*r rev limiter b16a civic
Showing how my bee*r power builder works. Started off with low rpm and low gain settings which is why it had a slow cut. Then slowly adjusted the gain up higher to create a faster cut. Then adjusted the rpm higher as well. Note: The bee*r is an ignition cut and not a fuel cut. Video taken with an iphone 4
