Slideshow Part5 Kaufdorf car graveyard Spring 2010
Kaufdorf Autofriedhof - Switzerland's vintage car graveyard.
It was the biggest graveyard of its kind in Europe -- a vast metal jungle
of more than 1,000 rusting vintage cars including forgotten British
Wolseleys, "sit up and beg" Ford Prefects, rotting Porsches and even the
wreck of a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud.
The collection of decaying old-timers, which go back to the late-1920s,
sits in makeshift corrugated iron garages and among trees on the edge of
Kaufdorf some 10 miles south of Switzerland's capital Bern.
After surviving for 75 years, the authorities have declared that the
collection is an environmental hazard and decided to clear it by court
order. But the plan has provoked uproar among concerned Kaufdorf locals and
more than just a few other Swiss residents. A campaign to preserve the site
was started when an open day was held. The organisers expected about 50
people to attend, but 10,000 turned up. Franz Messerli, whose father
founded the car cemetery, said: "We never expected such interest. Our aim
is to preserve it for posterity as a national work of art."
Mr Messerli's father, Walter, opened what was originally intended as a
vehicle breaker's yard in 1933. A part-time racing driver and scrap-metal
dealer, he was fascinated by cars and even taught himself to be a mechanic.
At its peak, his collection numbered about 2,000 vehicles.
Forgotten Volkswagen Single Cab
How does an old Volkswagen Single Cab get buried under 3 feet of dirt?
Took 45 years to bury this Volkswagen and almost 2 days to dig it out.
Have a look. Took the Syncro for a Sunday drive and spotted an old single
cab in the foothills outside Idaho Falls. This is nine hours worth of
digging condensed into a 15 minute video. It had been sitting in a wash
since 1967. It was buried under two feet of dirt but it's extremely rust
free given the circumstances. The drop gates hadn't seen the light of day
for 45 years. IF YOU HAVE A VOLKSWAGEN THAT NEEDS RESCUED OR KNOW OF ONE
GIVE US A CALL AT (208)200-6053. We also consign Volkswagens if you have
one you want to sell. Thanks Skeeters.
Thanks for all the phone calls and emails about Forgotten VW's that we have
received. This video has helped rescue several abandoned and otherwise
forgotten VW's that may have been left for dead including a very cool 1960
VW Double Cab that we got out of Missouri that had been sitting since 1965.
We also recently returned from Mission Viejo California where we picked up
a 1961 SO-23 Westfalia. This bus had been sitting since 1980. We got a
tip on that bus after someone saw the Forgotten Single Cab video. Give us
a call today if you know of one. Thanks again. Skeeters (208)200-6053

Forgotten Volkswagen Camper Van LIVES AGAIN !!!!!!! VW Bus
We pulled this 1979 Volkswagen Camper out of a shop where it had been
sitting since 1997. The motor was partially installed but needed to be
finished. Tires were shot and the interior was a mess. We spent the
better part of 2 weeks cleaning, polishing and replacing anything that
needed to be fixed. It was a team effort and couldn't have got it done
without the help of my amazing wife and daughters. If you have an old
Volkswagen you want to sell give us a call today at (208)200-6053. Thanks

Oval Window Beetles - BugsVille Large Collection and Barn Finds
BugsVille was a place of wonder and was by far the largest collection of
Oval Window Bugs most have seen in one place. The place was nick named
Bugsville because there were so many VW's, and in one photo I took I
counted 22, most of which were Oval Windows. It was located in
Southwestern Ontario Canada just outside Tillsonburg before the car
crushers came in and squashed them all. This is just such a waste of
history to have them rust away then ultimately be destroyed. If anyone has
any more photos or stories about this place let me know as I would love to
see and hear about it! These photos are at least 12 years old now and I
thought it was time to put them in a video.
