accelerating a mercedes 560 sel at full throttle to 170 kph. it was not yet in 4th gear but i had to throttle back (not at 172 where the clip ends but at the dot of 170)due to traffic. i will do a 0 to top speed(?) soonish.
i lost half a second in the video (between 130-140kph) for some unknown reason (maybe because i changed the camera angle and the camera's stabiliser lagged the recording. so add .5 second to the times above 130kph).
this is an old car with a 5.6 litre v8 and is very heavy and not known for performance.
it is therefore surprising to see how quick it is for all those drawbacks.

There are a few things you can do and look at to determine how healthy an
old Mercedes diesel engine actually is. They can be done in about 10
minutes. In this video Kent will demonstrate these quick checks on his
newly acquired W126 300SD and discuss the results. You may want to do these

The old "300" is starting to look pretty good. In this video Kent will show

bring back some life in this old W126 Mercedes Diesel. This is certainly a

Since these 1978 to 1987 Mercedes W116, W123, and W126 diesels are now so
old, you can expect to have to deal with the front driver's seat if you
want a comfortable ride "down the road." A fatigued and broken seat bottom
spring assembly is the most common problem. In this video you will get to
