VELODYNE ULD 18 INCH SUBWOOFER REPAIR AND TEST
Here we have a Velodyne ULD 18 Subwoofer in need of a Re-Foam. Problem is, you can not source a Foam Ring to fit it.. Called Velodyne and they could only offer an in house replacement of the Sub for a cost of around 2000 bucks !! Or.. How about the New 18 Sub Velodyne for 6000 dollars !! Neither option appealed to me. So. I went on a search.. Even on the forums, I found the same problem for the 18 and the 18 only as it is the big boy and is so expensive I guess there are not as many of them sold as the 15's or 12's .. There are 18 inch foams out there, but they do not match up to the Velodyne 18 for some reason. .Almost like the Velodyne 18 is a custom build or something.. Lucky for me, I found Theo at Western Speaker repair. . Theo collected some parameters from me and sold me a Fiber 2 stage Sub ring for my Velodyne. Fits beautifully. I do not understand why Velodyne never used this fiber suspension for the outer ring of their subs being that the inner one used is fiber!! Fiber and sealed. Being that the old Foam was a large single stage suspension, the new fiber one is a 2 stage, so it actually provides more suspension than the old foam version, but this is a sealed unit and sub travel is not as large as other subs with Exhaust ports. .. There are no Exhaust ports on this Velodyne. It is a sealed unit. So.. I installed the fiber 2 stage ring and then sealed it with Latex Rubber provided and then.. Powered up !! And wow !!! Fantastic !! Better than new !! Just sounds superb !! Velodyne should have used these from the start !!! Maybe it was just too much work to install them since curing is involved and you must treat it with 2 coats.. At any rate.. All done at a cost of around 40 dollars and 2-3 hours labor. Prep took most of the time for sure. .. Anyway.. Check out the video to see and learn more about this fantastic Subs from Velodyne !! Also.. I noticed the last 2 parts of this video are out of order. A flip Camera Software issue. But it is all there.. Enjoy the clip. I hope it helps other Velodyne Owners out there..

1964 Ford Thunderbird Convertible There are a lot of unique cars out there but look closely at a Thunderbird and you will be surprised at how many neat features it has. This 1964 Thunderbird is extremely tight and runs incredibly well. These cars had a look all of there own and really stand out in the crowd. It is coated a very nice Red that has been buffed out to a great finish. The front end appearance is very unique and that large chrome grill/bumper has a beautiful shine. The dual headlights are cleanly mounted in recessed style coves and are framed in nice polished bezels. To both front fenders are the original style bullet turn signal indicators and the hood has the correct scoop and trim. In the rear are the long taillights that work just as they should. Where most cars have individual bezels for the taillights these cars utilizes an entirely chromed rear section. Another cool feature is the rear fender skirts which fit nicely in place and are topped with Tbird emblems. Nicely chromed mirrors are in place on both sides and are both easily adjustable. The car has a very solid stance and rolls around on beautiful Kelsey Hayes wire wheels with Thunderbird knock off style center caps. Giving life to this machine is a 390 V8 that was finished out very nicely. Chrome looks flashy but there is something very appealing about a motor done in this way. All of the components are cleanly painted in a factory style that really pops. Small touches like the decals really make the difference in giving it that original look. The inner fenders are nicely painted to match the car with the firewall coated black. Backing this up is a nice automatic transmission that shifts smoothly with no issues. This car really is a great driver that runs just as beautifully as it looks. The interior of the car brings us to a feature every TBird enthusiast is quick to point out. Nicely in place on the dash is the tilt away steering column which adjusts to the left and right allowing the driver to easily hop in and out of place. Not only was this a functional feature it was an idea thought up by the designers to give the new models something unique to create a buzz about the car. The interior upholstery is completed in a two tone Red and White that looks great. Everything is in gorgeous condition from the trim down to the smallest knob on the dash. An original style center console is in place which provides extra storage and houses the Thunderbird AM/FM radio and the AC/Heat controls. A power top is also in place which easily lowers and raises the BRAND NEW high quality white cloth top.
