In this episode of My Classic Car, Dennis Gage makes another visit to
Ocala, Florida to coax the keys from Rick Schmidt of National Parts Depot.
Drop top cruising is the aim of Dennis this time, and Rick fulfills the
need with a 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner (retractable hardtop) and a
1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL convertible.

Like New - Very well redone 1956 Ford Fairlane - SOLD!
Take a very very close look at this stunning 56 ford Fairlane 2 door sedan!
Have you ever seen a 56 so cherry? The current owner of 9 years updated the
car in 2002 with power out of a 1989 Lincoln 302 4 speed over-drive
automatic transmission! The 302 has a new Holley 600 carburetor. At the
same time the motor was done, the front end was also done which was 16,000
miles ago. We have been told that the Lincoln donor motor had about 60K
miles on it--so overall motor miles are approximately 76K. It also has a
dual servo master cylinder.
The car also has professional conversion kit P/S, Lincoln 4-way power disk
brakes, R/H, an after market kit A/C, Lincoln 4-way power disk brakes, 6
disk player in the trunk, very sanitary VDO gauges in the dash, and spot
lights--of course. The outside of the car keeps with the stock approach
with a little upgrade with chrome and of course lake pipes, newer Super
Steel 535 205/55R16 tires, mags, and dual Exhaust that provides a great rumble.
The interior speaks for itself and is very very clean job as is the rest of
the car (it has just been done right). A full picture by picture was done
as the work went along. This is a superb frame up. You are worthy of this
car and all you have to do is just turn the key and drive away! As
previously stated, this is a health forces the sale I really wish I could
have had this master put my crown together. JUST REDUCED FROM 30K TO
CURRENT PRICE AS ILLNESS FORCES SALE!

This era Fairlanes are some of my favorite cars. I think the simple,
straight line styling is really nice..the dash, the console, the fender
lines and grille are all very straightforward. No excess chrome, just
brightwork to highlight the lines of the car. Their "midsize" is perfect
for families and yet its better for cities than the full sized cars.

This Mandarin Orange ultra-custom '55 Crown Victoria has won trophies at
the Grand National Roadster Show, the Blackie Gejeian Fresno Autorama,
Carlisle All-Ford Nationals and impressed the likes Boyd Coddington, George
Barris and John Force among others. It's one of the best customs on the
planet and it carries the show history to prove it.
Body modifications were handled by Bernt Karlsson, owner of Customs by
Bernt, who should be familiar to you as Boyd Coddington's painter on the
show American Hotrod. Karlsson began making customizations to the body by
adding a grille and front bumper from a '59 Thunderbird, pushbutton door
openers from a '41 Lincoln and taillights from a '55 Mercury. Once all of
that work was finished, round two consisted of front lights from a '55
Mercury station wagon, rear fender skirts from a '57 Mercury station wagon
and Cadillac wheel covers which provide a nice subtle stock-yet-custom
After the shell was finished, Nosse Brothers took over for the reassembly
and customization of the small details. They installed a full set of custom
fitted Solex tinted glass, painstakingly built up the Art Morrison chassis
before marrying it to the body and handled all finishing aspects of the car
from headliner to fuel lines.
1967 Thunderbird landau seats are done in the same soft, aromatic two tan
leather as the rest of the cockpit and look great next to Nosse Brothers
custom door panels. VDO classic series instruments are set in a customized
'56 Ford dash and the Ididit steering column features a billet Budnik
steering wheel which complements Nosse Brothers billet pedals. This custom
interior veritably screams class, refinement and comfort and makes for an
exceptionally well tied together car.
Art Morrison built the custom 3" by 4" boxed frame and tubular A arm front
suspension which houses Aldan Eagle coil overs at all four corners, a
Morrison spindle set, Wilwood 11" disc brakes and a Flaming River rack. Out
back, a Morrison four link set hangs a Hooper's Ford 9" with 3.50 gears,
Moser 36 spline axles and another pair of Wilwood 11" rear disc brakes.
Stainless fasteners are everywhere, braided hoses carry all fluids and the
top loader 4-speed and a Cannon Engineering driveshaft is as detailed as
the rest of the car. The floors are as perfect as the topside, making a
perfect backdrop to the custom 2.5" ceramic coated Exhaust. This is one show car that's as drivable
as it is perfect!
The big daddy 560 horsepower Ford Racing 460
cubic inch V8 looks right at home in the smoothed engine compartment. D-460
aluminum SCJ heads top the motor, getting their fill from a Blue Thunder
dual quad manifold and a pair of Holley 600s. Doug's Headers and a Modine
radiator round out the package and complement Bernt's smoothed firewall.
Built over a four year period at a cost of more than $250,000, this car is
the fulfillment of a childhood dream. When you've got the right people and
the right plan trophies just about get mailed to your door. It was Boyd
Coddington's personal pick at his eponymous cruise, best of show at John
Force's holiday cruise, finished second at the GNRS in mild custom, took
the Outstanding Elegance award in Fresno, best custom at Carlisle and
Meguiars sponsored the car in 2005. Of course, that list neglects smaller
shows that it's gone to, but suffice to say it never lost. Bob McClurg
himself wrote the car up in a six page spread in Super Rod.
If you're a Ford fan, a custom fan or a 50s fan this car just has to make
you smile. With its show winning history, award winning builders, mountain
of trophies and dynamite looks this is just the custom car centerpiece
you've been looking for to add to your collection!

This stunning Ford Thunderbolt, a true to form replica that follows a
lightweight fiberglass front clip with a built 427, tough Toploader
transmission and beefy Currie 9-inch, is about as cool as they come. If
you're in the market for some instantly recognizable muscle that's stacked
with first class looks and a nasty disposition, you're reading about your
A series of 100 units produced for the 1964 model year, The Ford Fairlane
Thunderbolt was an experimental, drag race only automobile that combined
lightweight Fairlane bodies with dual-quad Galaxie motors. Although the
Galaxie had proven itself in NASCAR, it was simply too heavy to be drag
raced with any significant success. After Ford had stripped the car into a
semi-victorious 'lightweight', they decided to apply the same formula to
the Fairlane. The result was a storied track champion that, when compared
to the Galaxie, was 3 inches shorter, weighed 700 pounds less and
unofficially produced over 600 horsepower.
Not surprisingly, this awesome Fairlane drove out of Ford's Dearborn
assembly plant at the beginning of the great American performance wars.
After spending a short time as random showroom candy, it began a long life
of solid maintenance and back road workout routines. And today, covered in
a familiar coat of Vintage Burgundy two-stage, it sits as the beneficiary
of a thorough, frame-off restoration that was conducted on solid, original
bones. Pull the car into the harsh winter sun and you'll see good looking
paintwork that presents well from every angle. Underneath that paint, the
body's Kansas-flat panels say a lot about the integrity of their platform.
And overall, that platform's alignment rates well above anything the
factory offered, featuring even gaps and tight closing hinges all the way
When Dearborn brass decided to shove beefy big blocks into mid-size
Fairlanes, they probably had a hard time keeping a straight face. And, when
you get behind the wheel of this new age Thunderbolt, you'll understand
exactly why. Unpin the hood and you'll find a show-detailed Ford V8 that's
been bored and stroked to 482 cubic inches of raw, big block power!
Take a peek under the car and you'll find an exceptionally clean chassis
that's punctuated by Satin Black floors and, in traditional Thunderbolt
fashion, a substantially re-engineered suspension. At the center of that
suspension, a road-ready Toploader 4-speed proves just as effective as ever
at slinging gears and scorching stoplights. That transmission channels
power to a 9-inch Currie rear end, which exchanges a brutal 4.58 factory
set up for mild, 3.55 cruisers. There's a rebuilt steering system that
combines with manual front disc and rear drum brakes to make turns easy and
stopping a cinch. And torque meets the pavement through polished Radir
Tri-Ribb IIIs, which spin 6.40-15 Firestone Deluxe Champions in front of
7.75-15 Radir Cheater Slicks.
Between the standard steel doors, a Light Beige Metallic interior strikes a
nice balance of authenticity and livability. While the lightweight bucket
and bench seats may not look like the lap of luxury, a brief stint behind
the wheel reveals a comfortable and compliant ride. Correct rubber flooring
frames a correct chrome shifter. The dash is stock, hanging factory
telemetry and correct deletes between a big tachometer, a small Auto Meter
oil gauge and a correct glove box disclaimer tag. And in front of the
driver, an ornate factory steering wheel provides a touch of class.
There simply aren't that many chances to own a clean, well-done Thunderbolt
-- especially at this price. If you're looking for a different kind of
muscle car, call, click or visit http://RKMotorsCharlotte.com today!
