This little crossover SUV along with the Honda CR-V is responsible for starting the crossover craze. Today there are almost 50 different crossover models for sale here in America. The 4th generation RAV4 is an updated model that gets a complete interior and exterior redesign as well as an updated powerplant. The 2013 Toyota RAV4 comes in 3 trim levels: the LE, the XLE, and the top of the line Limited. The base price on the LE trim is just under $25k The RAV4 vs. CR-V battle reminds us of the old Ford vs. Chevy battles during the muscle car era. Over the past few years the Honda CR-V has really taken over the segment, gaining the most market share. But the all-new 2013 Toyota RAV4 aims to get back on top of the crossover sales charts. There are a ton of new features and lots of changes that make the 4th generation RAV4 the best ever. The past generation Toyota RAV4 came with a choice of a 4-cylinder or V-6 engine. Well the larger V-6 has been dropped and now the only engine offered is an efficient 2.5 liter 4-cylinder making 176 horsepower and 172 lb-ft. of torque. What that means is coupled with the standard 6-speed automatic transmission and FWD; the 2013 Toyota RAV4 will return 31 MPG on the highway. You can also opt for an AWD version as a $1400 option. The 2013 Toyota RAV4 has been completely redesigned outside and in. It all starts with a brand new front end consisting of a bold grille and headlights that look similar to the new Camry. This generation RAV4 was made more aerodynamic and the result is better fuel economy. If you are buying a crossover chances are you may be driving around small children. The new Toyota RAV4 comes with a segment leading 8 standard air bags. Toyota engineers also worked the interior design to allow for the most cargo volume in the segment. The interior of the 2013 Toyota RAV4 is completely new with some great new features including an Acoustic Windshield which helps reduce wind noise. From the driver's perspective, the new instrumentation is pleasing while being easy to use. After the 7 year run of the previous model, Toyota has really stepped it up inside the cabin. The 2013 Toyota RAV4 sits nicely on the road and you will like the way it drives on the highway. This is an economy crossover SUV after all so you shouldn't expect the RAV4 to ride like a luxury car. Bottom line is that Toyota did a great job on the newly redesigned RAV4. They really hit the mark on this one and it's a huge improvement over the outgoing model. The 2013 Toyota RAV4 certainly has all the features you need. In fact the RAV4 can now compete with the Honda CR-V at the top of the economy crossover SUV segment. The interior is a welcome change. The last gen was an awful mess, flat-out stupid looking. The new model 2013 Toyota RAV4 better be fantastic to drive, because otherwise it is very disappointing. Test drive. V-6 and third row seat options no longer available. Full size spare tire gone. Ground clearance reduced. Four cylinder engine has lost horsepower. And, Toyota RAV4 of 2013 appears that what used to be among the best sightlines in the industry may have been substantially compromised. Toyota says its RAV4 of 1994 was the first 'modern compact SUV'. But where the original RAV was fun and fashionable, the latest model is a fully-fledged family car. It sits below Land Cruiser in Toyota's 4x4 line-up and prices at launch range from £22,596 to £29,295. The RAV4 wears Toyota's new family face, with angular headlights and a prominent V-shaped grille. Its styling echoes the Auris hatchback and is more distinctive (some might say uglier) than the outgoing model. Like many 'soft-roaders', the RAV4 isn't, strictly speaking, a 4x4; the 122bhp 2.0-litre diesel -- the likely bestseller -- is two-wheel drive only. If you want all-wheel traction, you need the 148bhp 2.2 diesel -- or the 149bhp 2.0 petrol. The 2.0 diesel is only available with a manual gearbox, while the petrol has a 'single-speed' CVT automatic. The 2.2 diesel engine comes with manual or conventional auto transmissions. There are three trim levels: Active, Icon and Invincible. Standard kit on all models includes air-con, Bluetooth, heated door mirrors and iPod connectivity. Icon and Invincible versions get the Toyota Touch touchscreen media system
