Information about Oldsmobile V8 engines
In this video I talk about the "late" Oldsmobile V8 and offer tips on how
to identify them by number.
"Late" in this instance means 1964-1990. Early('49-64) Olds engines are an
entirely different block, etc.
Sometimes my info gets a bit twisted when it stays inside my head for a
while, so a correction is that '77-80 heads are 3A, not 4A. 4A heads are
Also, to clarify and avoid confusion, this...7 A is a 350 head, this...7A
is a later 307 head. You can also tell the difference easily by the ports.
Late 307 and 260 ports are half the size of any other versions.
Trivia: The Olds 403 was used in 1977-79 Pontiac Trans-Am's, but not all of
Of note...the engine in the video is painted the incorrect shade of gold,
which appears to be the Krylon generic gold. The proper shade is slightly
darker and less "glitzy"
1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass 10 second car
Here's a very street-able 10 second '71 Oldsmobile Cutlass! It started out
as a very clean stock original that then received a pro built 468 ci V8 big
block and a turbo 350 automatic with a
4800 stall converter. The engine has a .720 lift solid roller cam shaft,
ported 781 heads, 12:1 compression, forged pistons, 150 shot of NOS,
digital MSD ignition, MSD wires, MSD Blaster SS coil, Hooker Super Comp
headers, custom aluminum radiator with dual electric fans, Weiand Team G
single plain intake manifold, Demon carburetor, K&N filter and breather,
March pulley system, fluid dampener, Magna Fuel Pressure control system,
NOS Powershot control system, and the wiring is all very clean under the
hood. Out back there's a12 bolt posi rear end with 4:10 gears and Mosier
axles, a Barry Grant fuel system, and Hotchkis rear suspension. The Cutlass
sits on a set of Billet Specialties 15 inch polished aluminum wheels with
Mickey Thompson 26x7.50-15LTs up front and 28x12.50-15LTs out back, and has
a lightweight Aerospace Components disc brake kit. The interior features a
6 point roll bar and retains all the factory interior, 4 point harness
system, has hideaway Autometer gauges, and a working stock radio! The car
has had a cowl hood installed, painted to match the rest of the original
paint. This is a VERY reliable, VERY street-able, 10 second car!

Oldsmobile Rocket 350 running on a homemade test stand
Hello to all those Oldsmobile fans out there!!!
This is my first engine build and also my first ever YouTube Video, so
bear with me..lol. This engine came out of a 1970 olds cutlass without A/C.
I kept the internals stock because its a great engine just as it came from
the factory. It has a Mondello balancer and sealed power cam and lifters.
Also added an HEI distributor and R46sz plugs for easier starts and
hopefully better fuel economy on high octane(91-93). Ask if you want
details on the motor or anything else, Bill
