This is the story of a '66 Buick Special convertible that had been abandoned in Arizona in 1978 by the family of Rick Pewe, editor of 4-Wheel & Off-Road magazine. In 2011, the guys from HOT ROD Magazine, in conjunction with Rick, spent four days bringing the car back from the dead with plans to drive it home from Phoenix to Los Angeles. Buick Century missing, Back fire through intake, stalling, loss of power, no start when warm.
Will not start when hot after a 5-7 min run, even WITH starting fluid, let it sit for 1-2 Hrs, and will start, and run, but only for a few. replaced Ignition Control Module, Crank position Sensor, fuel filter, Have spark at all 6 plugs, injectors are receiving power, Cleaned IAC Valve, can not figure it out.. Back fire through intake, Major loss of power, and runs bad, and smells just as bad as it runs. Seems to idle good with no miss, but give the throttle a quick punch, and you can hear it miss.

Bad-Ass Buick: 1955 Special - /BIG MUSCLE
Owner: • Harry Fisher In stock form, the 1955 Buick Special could best be described as a "nice" car. It's not drop dead gorgeous like a 1959 Impala, nor does it have the panache of say a 1956 Chrysler 300. You see the '55 Buick Special was a working mans car. It had room enough for the whole family, a decent power-plant thanks to its 264 cubic inch V8, and style that was, well... above average. Harry Fisher or "Uncle Harry" as most people know him, saw the old Buick a bit differently though. He knew that with a few little touches (like a 502 cubic inch big-block, modern suspension, and a new set of wheels) that this old Buick had the potential to become one of the baddest hot-rods around.





2001 Buick Century Custom
My 2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic is having some electrical system trouble. Since it's been so cold and disagreeable lately, I took the easy if expensive way out and let the dealership diagnose it. (The automotive electrical shop I send starters and generators off to for rebuilding wouldn't touch the truck.) The dealership says that the ignition switch is bad. I'm not so sure I believe them, as it appears to do little more than send wake-up signals to the various computers. That is, if the wiring diagram can be believed. The whole sequence of events is a long story (some video does exist and might be published in time) starting with the engine hours counter suddenly resetting itself and the blower fan not working on any speed other than high. It got worse from there, with the truck having fits about its ABS and brake system, and dropping out of cruise control if the fan switch was operated. Later I discovered that operating the transfer case would induce the same misbehavior. Ultimately, the blower motor stopped working completely as it had blown a protective fuse on the resistor pack. 2003-2006 and the "classic" 2007 truck models are infamous for having parts of the blower motor wiring burn up, and the dealership found that had happened with this truck. (It must have happened relatively recently, as I never noticed this when replacing the resistor pack and blower motor, both of which were bad. The blower motor would somehow still run, but measured 0 ohms resistance.) The dealership was going to charge for this repair, to the tune of some $500! If you have a similar truck with manual climate controls that is less than 10 years old or has fewer than 150,000 miles on it, DO NOT let a dealership charge for the repair. GM has issued a service bulletin under which burned up wiring, blowers that do not function on all speeds and/or are stuck on high will be repaired AT NO COST and regardless of ownership. I will post a link to this text later on. If you live in Canada, it appears that a recall was done there. So...back to the Buick Century I drove. Apart from the fact that the HVAC blower and resistor pack are crammed into near inaccessibility and the 3100 V6 engine's possible intake manifold gasket issues, I thought it was a fine (if unexciting) little car to drove. It certainly seemed to have a comfortable interior and seating surfaces. Yes, I meant to say "roller skate with an engine" instead of "roller skate with wheels". Most roller skates have wheels. ;-)
