BMW Serie 6 Cabrio www.quintamarcha.com Los cabrios de BMW se remontan a 1937, con el 327. Más de setenta años hasta llegar, en 2004, al Serie 6. Su relevo se llama igual, pero no tiene nada que ver, pues se ha transformado en un descapotable fascinante. Todo en el nuevo Serie 6 Cabrio es espectacular, empezando por las medidas: 4,89/1,89/1,36 metros, ganando 74 mm en longitud y 39 en el ancho, disminuyendo 9 mm la altura. En cuanto a la distancia entre ejes (2,85 m), gana 75 mm. Así pues, sus casi cinco metros de imponente coche, con una línea más estilizada y puntiaguda que antes, pasos de rueda acentuados, baja cintura, capó alargado y habitáculo retrasado, con trazos que los diseñadores alemanes han querido asemejar a las olas del mar, atraen todas las miradas de quienes no quieren perderse tamaño espectáculo. El frontal ha ganado agresividad y dinamismo, con ópticas con anillos luminosos diurnos de leds y xenón para la visión nocturna. Interior excitante La zaga, también un espectáculo, es realmente bella. Los grandes pilotos están dividos en dos, con luces de freno e intermitentes de leds. El Serie 6 Cabrio lleva un techo de capota textil, cuya apertura eléctrica se realiza en 19 segundos, empleando cinco más en cerrarse, operación que se puede completar con el coche circulando hasta 40 km/h. El habitáculo es otra obra de arte por su lujo y exclusividad. La disposición de los asientos es 2+2, siendo los traseros limitados para gente de altura. El puesto de conducción resulta excitante. Desde él se contempla el tablero de instrumentos de tecnología black-panel, combinando mandos redondos con la moderna tecnología de los display. Los sistemas de navegación, telefonía y entretenimiento se controlan de serie con la unidad de mando iDrive, que incluye la pantalla Control Display de 7 pulgadas (opcionalmente puede ser de 10,2) de innovador diseño, que se estrena en el nuevo modelo. Dos motores El Serie 6 Cabrio presenta dos versiones: el 650i y 640i, que utilizan propulsores diferentes. El más potente lleva un V8 de 408 CV, mientras que el pequeño monta un 6 cilindros en línea BMW TwinPower turbo de 320 CV. Ambas variantes se diferencian por el tamaño de las ruedas y las salidas de los escapes (uno a cada lado), que en el primero son rectangulares. En un futuro podría llegar un propulsor diésel. Los dos motores van equipados con Start/Stop y las cifras de consumo que da BMW son ciertamente contenidas: 7,9 l/100 km el 640i y 10,7 el gordo, registros magníficos para un coche que pesa 1.915 kilos (640i), que ofrece una tecnología impresionante, en la que no falta el preciso cambio automático de 8 velocidades, y que tiene una pisada, un dinamismo y un aplomo que impresiona. ¿El precio? No apto para bolsillos deprimidos: 111.500 euros el 650i y 94.400 el 640i. JMA

BMW i8 deliveries to customers starting in June. Plug-in hybrid system developed and produced by the BMW Group represents the latest development stage of Efficient Dynamics; debut for three-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower turbo technology, displacement: 1.5 litres, output: 170 kW/231 hp, maximum torque: 320 Nm (236 lb-ft); power sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox; model-specific hybrid synchronous electric motor, output: 96 kW/131 hp, maximum torque: 250 Nm (184 lb-ft); power channelled through the front wheels via a two-stage automatic transmission; lithium-ion high-voltage battery with liquid cooling and usable capacity of 5 kWh. This is a fantastic touring machine in its own rite. A base E-Series car starts at $51,400 and the E550 Cabriolet tested here starts at $67,300 but the price can balloon with additional added packages and options. The engine powering the E550 Convertible is a twin-turbo 4.7 liter V-8 that makes 402 horsepower and 443 lb-ft. of torque. Fuel economy figures are 17 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway. The great thing about this engine is a large torque curve. All that power and torque are necessary though as the E550 Cabriolet weighs a hefty 4048 lbs. The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E550 Cabriolet has a couple of great features to improve comfort of the passenger. The first is a system called AIRCAP which is essentially a spoiler on top of the windshield and a deflector behind the rear seats. These 2 automated parts work together to push the air flow p and over the passenger compartment minimizing wind. The second feature is the AIRSCRAF system which is a set of vents integrated into the head rests. These vents produce warm or cool air for the drive and front passenger. The Mercedes E550 Cabriolet has a split personality. You can drive the car in ECO or Comfort mode which makes the car loft around on the roads. But switch the dial to Sport and the entire car wakes up and performs brilliantly.
