This is a huge testament to the brand and especially to the popularity of the Scion FR-S car. The Tuner Challenge cars all came out great and each builder had their own ideas and tastes that were applied to the individual cars. What would you do with a new Scion FR-S as a blank canvas. Well drifting king Ken Gushi had just that opportunity when it came to building a car for SEMA. Ken calls this car the Scion Racing and GREddy Performance Drift Dream Build. The reason being Ken got to make all the decisions that he only dreams about. And the result you see here in this video is nothing short of stunning. The engine is a 2JZ-GTE engine out of a Toyota Supra. These engines are known for their stout quality and their ability to produce outrageous power figures. The beefy tires are Hankook while the rims are from RAYS. The look is subtle yet loud at the same time. The color itself is fairly normal but the Rocket Bunny wide body kit is in your face! The Actual build process took about 4 months recalls Gushi. The team plans to try the car at Drifting, Road Racing, and Time Attack. Formula Ford EcoBoost 1.0 Liter Street Legal Road Race Car @ SEMA
http://www.autobytel.com/ford Autobytel recently caught up with Michael Norton, the head of Ford Racing Europe, at the 2012 SEMA show to talk about Ford's Street Legal EcoBoost Formula Ford road car. Don't let the racecar look fool you, because this thing is street legal. As the Motorsports Manager for Ford, Mr. Norton has lots of inside knowledge on making blue ovals go fast, and he was more than happy to share some thoughts on the extremely efficient exercise in design. The Formula Ford EcoBoost Roadcar that was on display in Las Vegas has been fitted with a little 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine. The purpose of this is to show the performance and economy from a small 3-cylinder engine. Although this engine is not available here in the U.S. it is standard on many cars in the U.K. including the Fiesta, Focus, and C-Max. The 1.0 liter engine is part of a bigger EcoBoost engine family. This car was specially built for a Media Event at Germany's Nürburgring. A lap time of 7:22 was set by Formula Ford driver Nick Tandy which is the 11th fastest times to be seen around Nordschleife beating out Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, and all sorts of cars. This goes to show the true potential of this small 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine. This Formula Ford car was specifically designed to be road legal. Ford Motorsports spent the whole summer working with the proper U.K. government so that the car would be SVA (single vehicle approval) legal. Volkswagen as a brand was been built on practicality as well as innovation, and the 2013 VW Jetta Hybrid is no exception, especially when you take into consideration that the hybrid powered gas/electric commuter starts at only $24,995. What we have here is the first ever turbocharged hybrid. The power plant consists of a 1.4 liter turbocharged engine combined with an electric motor to produce 170 horsepower and 184 lb-ft. of torque. The Jetta Hybrid has the ability to operate in pure EV mode for up to a mile at speeds under 44 MPH. Volkswagen has incorporated advanced lithium ion technology into their battery packs which are located in the trunk. Some storage space has to be sacrificed but you will no doubt love the resulting fuel economy which should be about 45 MPG. Volkswagen has made some improvements to the exterior of the Jetta Hybrid in the name of aerodynamics that brings the drag coefficient down from 0.3 to 0.28. When you look at other hybrids, their transmission is most often a CVT which takes the fun out of driving. But the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid gets a 7-speed twin-clutch automatic transmission that is simply amazing. The Jetta Hybrid is the car for the enthusiast out there who wants something other than the bland Prius. From a driving dynamics stand point, Volkswagen aimed to make this car the best driving hybrid on the market and they have succeeded. The sound system is also a top notch BOSE unit. This is a high end luxury car and you will get treated like royalty by your Infiniti dealer. Driving the 2013 Infiniti FX50 is impressive. This luxury crossover can go from 0-60 MPH in a little over 5 seconds which is amazing. The steering is tight and the suspension firm which makes for a wonderfully agile vehicle. Find out here! http://vid.io/xqoF The Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 are all essentially the same car and together they are probably one of the most misunderstood sports cars sold in America. Misunderstood you ask? Why yes. Many assume that the sexy coupé is rocket ship fast. It's not. Many assume the svelte 2-door grips the road like it has claws. It doesn't. Many have heard rumours that it wears Toyota Prius tires. It kinda-sorta does. What most people don't know however is that these traits combine to create one of the purest, most enjoyable and certainly most affordable rear wheel drive sports cars in America. In the same tradition as a classic lightweight English sports car, the 2+2 Scion FR-S' raison d'être isn't to eat Ford Mustangs for breakfast, it's mission is to be the best balanced track car. And it succeeds. The 200HP and 151 lb-ft of torque are unquestionably low for our modern era where even a Camry cranks out more power, but the power is perfectly balanced to the car's weight AND grip. The low-rolling resistance tires allow the FR-S to get just the right amount of tail-happy on a small track and the manual transmission is perfectly suited to an autocross style event. Sure, putting the FR-S on a larger track like Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca reveals the FR-S is out-gunned by plenty of rivals, but doing so also misses the point. I like to think of the Scion/Toyota/Subaru as baby's first track car, the kind of car you can use to hone your driving skills before moving up to a more-powerful, faster and deadlier vehicle. The key to loving this low-slung 2+2 is to understand what it is, and most importantly: what it isn't.
