Is It Numbers Matching? - Cougar by the Numbers
In this video we delve into the complex topic of decoding tags, date codes,
and other numbers to check if your classic Ford / Mercury is "numbers
matching," using Don's newly acquired '69 Mercury Cougar XR7 428 Cobra Jet
convertible as an example. While we haven't covered the subject 100% in
this video (to keep it concise) we think this covers most of the major
components and gives you the knowledge you need to figure out what your
numbers mean. As mentioned in the video, we highly recommend Marti Auto
Works, especially his Tagbook, which made this video possible. Visit him

Mercury Cougar - American Muscle Car
An excellent TV show featuring the classic Mercury Cougar. They cover all
the classic years, and talk about all the different engines and option
packages you could get. Only a couple minor mistakes (they say the that
XR-7 package included a 4-speed stick, then show an automatic shifter in
one... derrr) but overall a very nice overview of these cars.

1967 Mercury Cougar XR7
A 1967 Mercury Cougar XR7. 302 V8, C4, Aluminum Heads, Roller Rockers,
Roller Cam, 4V, AC, PS, PB. Restoration was completed in 2006. Originally
purchased in Ontario California. Purchased from Weber & Cooper
Lincoln/Mercury in late 1967. I purchased the car in 1988 and drove it for
a few years. Full restoration started in 1994. Now it isa weekend and
summer day recreational driver. This video was taken using a digital still
camera so the quality is not as good as I had hoped for.
The Story Of Cougar 1: The First Mercury Cougar
A while back, we sat down with Jim Pinkerton, the owner of the very first
production Mercury Cougar (1967 model year), a.k.a. Cougar 1. We hit the
"record" button on our cameras and he let loose with an epic tale of how
the car was first sold in Canada, its subsequent life there, and how it
eventually got into his hands - an intriguing story! He also goes over some
of the unique features of the car, and some of the restoration techniques
used. It's a truly beautiful factory show car with more attention to detail
than the 'average' Cougar.
Special thanks to Jim Pinkerton for his time, and for providing most of the
images you see in this video from his own collection of Cougar memorabilia.

1st and 2nd for the new camera tryout. need practice with camera. should
have filmed from other side of street, started recording too late and
batteries went dead so couldnt do a 2nd one. note the puff of smoke at the
end? on occasion, my secondaries hang open for a sec. not noticed on shift,
but I shouldn't have put the clutch in so quick when I shut down.
