In this video, Randall talks a bit about the car's history and what he did during the restoration process. Then, hold on as I ride shotgun in this LS6 car. 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Gateway Classic Cars Chicago #876
For sale in our Chicago showroom is this powerful 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS. By 1970 the Chevelle had made its mark on the American people by being named the best selling mid-size car in America. Though most were powered by a lesser V8, or even an inline 6, the SS nameplate bumped this vehicle up to a much more potent V8. Some people aren’t satisfied with “fast enough” and want to take things to another level entirely. That is what happened with this Chevelle. The factory V8 was replaced with a 540 CID bib block-based all aluminum World motor producing an estimated 900 streetable horsepower. As any true car enthusiast would know, you cans just build the engine and expect nothing else to fail, so the entire vehicle was gone through and brought up to spec. The automatic transmission was replaced with a much more robust B&M Race-oriented unit with a trans-brake. Although a 12-bolt from the era would have handled the power, the builder chose to upgrade it to a Ford 9” unit sporting 4.88:1 gear ratio. Although being fast is certainly important to some people, looking good while doing it matters to the rest. This car has been repainted in Metal Magenta with gray racing stripes down the hood and trunk paying homage to the original styling of the Chevelle SS. The interior has stock vinyl seats with custom red piping. The interior has been upgraded with a B&M ratchet shifter to select which gear you want to drive in. A set of Autometer gauges have been installed under the dash to keep tabs on the engine condition. A set of sticky Mickey-Thompson street slicks wrapped around 15” Weld Racing rims get the power to the pavement with style. The full 3” Exhaust shakes the ground as it rolls by. From a quick glance, you would never guess all the power this Chevelle is hiding under the hood. With no stone left unturned, this super-sleeper Chevelle is sure to turn some heads, and break some hearts at the drag strip. Options include: AM/FM Radio, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Vinyl Interior, and Racing Wheels.
