Ride along in the 2012 Subaru WRX STI as 2011 Rally America National Champions David Higgins and Craig Drew pilot Subaru Rally Team USA #75 through the intensely slippery and icy conditions found at the 2012 Sno*Drift Rally in Atlanta, Michigan. The lack of grip was described as unbelievable and forced the team to take many junctions at just a few miles per hour in order to stay on the road. Despite this, their precise and quick driving set them up with a nearly two minute lead early in the event which they carried until the finish, winning the first event on the 2012 Rally America National Championship series.
The Sno*Drift Rally features nearly 130 miles of snow and ice-covered roads in northern Michigan. Constantly changing weather and road conditions historically make this rally extremely challenging made even more treacherous as Rally America rules prohibit the use of spiked or studded ice tires here placing a premium on road traction.

Subaru Isle of Man TT Record Attempt
Subaru of America, Inc. has released a new YouTube video of the 2011 Subaru
WRX STI setting an all-time course record for the historic Isle of Man TT
Mountain Course. The 5 minute 25 second video highlights in graphic detail
the speed and drama surrounding rally driver Mark Higgins' lap that
averaged 115.356 MPH. After the run, Higgins talks through the "moment" at
Brey Hill when he momentarily loses, and then regains, control of the WRX
STI at more than 150 MPH.
Driving a US specification 2011 Subaru WRX STI, Higgins achieved speeds of
162 MPH and a lapped time of 19 minutes 37 seconds over the 37-mile track,
navigating more than 200 corners.
"This is one of the most daunting tracks I have ever driven, and the most
terrifying," said Higgins, a Manx native. "We were only able to get two
practice runs and on our second practice I had the biggest "moment" of my
career. We had a passenger on the run and so coming into Bray Hill at more
than 150 MPH, the extra weight compressed the suspension more than on
previous runs and shifted the Subaru to the left and then right as I
corrected--it was a real tank slapper. The whole thing went by so quickly
that we never slowed below 110 MPH, and then we were back on the power. It
was amazing and the helicopter shots really show just how hairy it really
The WRX STI was a production US spec car running a standard 305 HP turbocharged boxer engine. Some safety
modifications were made. The Subaru was equipped with a Lifeline fire
suppression system, Hockley Motorsports roll cage, motordrive competition
seats, Mintex brake pads (but stock calipers and rotors), and a louder open
Exhaust to warn spectators of the
on-coming car. The speed limiter was turned off to allow a higher maximum
speed; off-the shelf Tien springs and dampers were added to accommodate the
numerous high-speed jumps on the circuit, sending the WRX STI almost four
feet off the ground. The car ran on street legal Pirelli P Zero Trofeo
Dave Mirra Stages Comeback to Finish 2nd Overall at Season Opener Sno*Drift Rally
(January 31, 2011) Subaru Rally Team USA driver Dave Mirra achieved a rally
career best 2nd Overall finish at the season opening Sno*Drift Rally via a
comeback late in the rally. Mirra, at the wheel of his 2011 Subaru Impreza
WRX STI rally car, patiently moved up the leaderboard after a tire puncture
early in the rally dropped him down to 5th Overall.
Driving smooth and mistake free Mirra, with co-driver Marshall Clarke,
caught and overhauled 2nd overall position on the penultimate stage of the
rally. The 2011 Sno*Drift Rally, held in snowy northern Michigan was round
one of the six round 2011 Rally America National Championship.
Mirra's new teammate, multi-time British and American Rally champion David
Higgins, co-driven by Craig Drew, made his competition debut with Subaru
Rally Team USA at the 2011 Sno*Drift Rally. Higgins led the rally briefly
before an engine issue forced him to retire from the event late on day one.
The Sno*Drift Rally featured nearly 130 miles of snow and ice-covered roads
in northern Michigan with nearly one third of the miles run at night.
Constantly changing weather and road conditions historically make this
rally one of the most difficult in the Rally America Championship. The
event is made even more challenging due to Rally America rules that

SRT USA #75 dominates at 2012 Sno*Drift Rally
Subaru Rally Team USA's David Higgins and Craig Drew dominated at the 2012
Sno*Drift Rally in Atlanta, Michigan. Driving a 2012 Subaru WRX STI, the
duo took the lead early on and never looked back winning the event by
nearly two minutes. "The completely unpredictable surface conditions and
our lack of experience in winter rallying made for a huge challenge," said
Higgins after the race, "but I feel, after this, we've proved ourselves in
the snow." This decisive win has given SRT USA the initial points lead in
the 2012 Rally America National Championship.

Subaru driver David Higgins completed the biggest comeback of his career to
finish second overall on the sinuous and technical dirt roads of
Pennsylvania's 2012 Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally (STPR), round
four of six in the 2012 Rally America National Championship. Higgins
dropped over three minutes to the leaders after a mechanical problem struck
his Subaru on the event's first stage dropping him down to 13th Overall.
With his BFGoodrich-tires shod Subaru WRX STI fully repaired for STPR's
second and much longer day of rallying, Higgins pushed hard and climbed the
leaderboard, finding himself on the podium at the finish. The strong
result retains Higgins' substantial lead in the 2012 Rally America
Championship standings and puts him within a handful of points of securing
his second straight Rally America crown with two events still remaining.

Rally Crashes happened in 2012 and 2013 . Car accidents because of drifts .
The production-based cars with 1.6 L direct injection turbo engine and four-wheel drive are built to
World Rally Car regulations for racing across tarmac, gravel and snow. The
power output is limited to around 300 bhp (225 kW). Current cars in the
championship include the Citroën DS3 WRC, Ford Fiesta RS WRC and Mini WRC.
The WRC was formerly held for Group A and Group B rallycars. However, due
to the increasing power, lack of reliability and a series of fatal
accidents on the 1986 season, Group B was permanently banned. Later, in
1997, the Group A cars evolved into the WRC car spec, to ease the
development of new cars and bring new makes to the competition. In 2011,
new rules were introduced to encourage more manufacturers (and privateers)
to take part, because the recent economic downturn had prompted several
manufacturers to leave the championship.
Cars in the Production Car World Rally Championship are limited to
production-based cars homologated under Group N rules. Cars in the Super
2000 World Rally Championship are homologated under Super 2000 rules. Most
cars in the Junior World Rally Championship are homologated under Super
1600 rules, but Group N and selected Group A cars can also contest the
Starting in 2013,a new category of rally cars known as Group R were
introdued as a replacement to the Group A and Group N rally categories,
with cars classified under one of six categories based on their engine
capacity and type, wheelbase, and drivetrain. As a result no cars will be
homologated under Group A and Group N regulations and instead will be
reclassified under Group R. Parallel to this, the Super 2000 and Production
Car World Championships were restructured; Super 2000 and Group N cars were
merged into a single championship known as World Rally Championship-2
alongside R4 and R5 cars, whilst the Production Car World Championship was
completely reimagined as the World Rally Championship-3 for two-wheel drive
cars complying with R1, R2 and R3 regulations.
WRC Teams and Drivers
20 different manufacturers have won a World Rally Championship event,
and a further ten have finished on the podium.
Suzuki and Subaru pulled out of the WRC at the end of the 2008
championship, both citing the economic downturn then affecting the
automotive industry for their withdrawal. Mini and Ford both pulled out of
the WRC at the end of the 2012 championship, due to a similar economic
downturn affecting the European market.
A typical WRC team will consist of about 40 people on the events, with a
further 60--100 at the team base.
Manufacturers and manufacturer-backed teams usually have two or three
drivers participating in each rally who are eligible to score points. The
total number of crews (driver and his co-driver) in the rallies varied from
47 (Monte Carlo and Mexico) to 108 (Great Britain) during the 2007
In 2012, The Ford World Rally Team and The Mini WRC Team both announced
their departure from the World Rally Championships for the 2013 season.
Volkswagen and Hyundai will make their return to the championship in 2013
and 2014, respectively.Best of Crash Rallye HD Best of Crash Rallye HD Best
