More Problems With the 2000 Saab 9-3 (Smoking, Test Drive, etc.)
Well many of you have seen all the other videos on this car and seen that we replaced the turbo in it a little while ago. After sitting for an extended period and battling to get it started with a dead battery, when I took it for a drive it started smoking, more and more. Today, 1 day later after I drove it, we started it up and no smoke was to be found. Weird, we'll have to check it out more to make sure everything is right with it. but like I said, today, everything was totally fine so idk if the oil/gas mixture got screwed up or something from sitting so long with little to no gas in it (had to fill it up before the drive) or what. We shall see I guess! Let me know what you guys think!
Blown Head Gasket Saab 9-3?! Start Up With LOTS of Smoke
Well a lot of you probably remember the 2000 Saab 9-3 Hatch back that we
had at the dealership a couple of months ago. Well something happened to
the engine to where it just billows an un natural amount of pure white
smoke! They brought it back so we can get it fixed for them. In this
video I try and assess what's going on and see if you all have any
suggestions on what it could be before we send it to the shop. Dad also
pulls it around and sees for him self. we're thinking it's a head gasket
and maybe a motor mount or a tranny mount. Post below what you guys think
it is and I'll let you all know when we find out. You will see what I mean
and how bad this thing is haha, enjoy!
Replaced the Turbo in the 2000 Saab 9-3 Hatchback (Start Up, First Drive, Before/After)
Well I finally am getting the video up on the 2000 Saab 9-3 that I featured
a while ago with an engine malfunction. Turns out that it was a bad turbo. we replaced it and gave it a good
service and now it runs like new. no it didn't take this long to fix, it's
been done for a while, just waiting for the people to come and get it if
they come get it haha, plus I've been at school so not a lot of chances to
go home to video it. If not we'll just detail it and give our warranty
with it like the first time and make someone else happy with it! :)

Rebuilding a td05h 16g turbo. This
process can be applied to many journal bearing turbochargers. :) It definitely comes in handy to
know how to do this when you are in this type of hobby.
4/25/12: Small explanation on the balancing of the rotating assembly since
I get so many comments regarding it. This particular turbocharger, td05h, has its rotating assembly
components balanced separately. This means each individual part (compressor
wheel, turbine wheel/shaft) gets balanced separately. This allows for easy
interchangeability of parts in case they need replacing. This is why I am
able to install a td05 20g wheel on this turbo without having to balance the entire
rotating assembly. THIS IS NOT THE CASE FOR ALL turboS OUT THERE. You need to research whether
your specific turbo (if it's not td05h)
was balanced as an assembly or "component balanced" like I explained above.

Just having some fun at the track. Not my best run. But I kept up with it

blue devil head gasket sealant repairs a blown head gasket
A product called Blue Devil Head Gasket Sealant is added to the radiator
and is said to repair head gasket leaks.This product saved me ~2k +.With
their money back guarantee I had nothing to lose.Spent some time on
Saturday and Sunday doing the work and was driving on Monday.Can't say it
will fix all head gasket issues but i have nothing but accolades for this
product.All error codes were cleared.This product does not contain solids
as did products from the last century.Go to their website and follow the
directions instead of what is on the bottle.What you need to do is remove
as much glycol solution as you can,remove the thermostat,fill with
water,add the "Blue Devil",cap the radiator and circulate for 50
minutes.This solution will flash when it hits the hot spot(bad
gasket)leaving sodium silicate behind.In theory this is a permanent repair.
We shall see.
Update:3/20/10 After ~1100 miles it is still holding.Oil is clear with no
coolant and there is no coolant loss.
Update#2: 12/3/10 There is now 4k on the motor since adding BD.Just did the
second oil change.Added about 1/2 pint of coolant .Ready for winter.Still
going strong.No smoke or coolant loss issues.
Update #3: 3/14/11,85,000 miles,7,000 miles since "the" repair. The past
week resulted in coolant getting into the cylinders.There was no coolant in
the oil and the expansion tank was not bubbling.The vehicle was not smoking
like the last time,just a light vapor and coolant dripping from the weep
hole on the muffler.
Added a bottle of BD and yes it worked again.Anyone want to buy a truck ?
1999 Saab 9-3 - Acceleration Problems
My saab started stalling (the engine acts as if it stops running, and then
starts running again). This causes the rpms to fluctuate (sometimes going
down 1500 rpm before coming back up). However, if I let the engine idle,
there is no stalling. The longer I drive it, the worse it gets, until it
stalls when slight pressure is applied to the accellerator. When I turn
off the car and start it back up, it runs normal for a little bit. This
problem has been getting progressively worse and now the car isn't
Also, when the accelerator is pressed hard from idle, there is a dip in the
rpms. However, when in park I can raise the rpms to any level and it will
stay there without fluctuating.
The computer is throwing the code P0108, the map sensor is showing higher
pressure than expected. I have replaced the map sensor and all vacuum
lines connected to the throttle body (they were in bad shape). After doing
both of the above, the car seemed to work fine, then 30 miles down the road
it was back to the same problem. After this I started throwing parts at
it, and replaced the fuel filter, the fuel pressure regulator, and the
spark plugs, I also cleaned out the throttle body. These had no effect.
Just now, I used a baby snot bulb connected to turbo bypass valve to test for leaks, but it
didn't seem to be losing vacuum.
