1955 CHEVY - NICK's BLACKTOP BANDIT
Nick enjoyed watching the movie American Graffiti when he was quite young.
He just loved the black Chevy that Harrison Ford drives in the movie and
drag races near the end .. where it crashes and burns. Nick would always
say, What a terrible waste of a good car! So he set off on a journey to
find a 1955 Chevy. At the age of 11-½ he found it in southern PA. Now he
had to sit back and wait until he turned 14 to begin restoration. On the
DAY of his 14th birthday, he started! We are proud of the work you did
Nick, and glad that, yes, 16 years later you still have Blacktop Bandit.

American Graffiti '55 Chevy Frame-Off
In 1985 Steve Fitch sold the American Graffiti '55 to Wayne Newsome in
Maryland. Sometime thereafter the car was treated to a frame-off
customization. As you can see, many of the components were painted red or
chromed. The original rollbar was removed from the car, and a full leather
interior installed (not shown in the video) The steering column with the
steering wheel seen here - gripped by James Taylor in Two-Lane Blacktop and
Harrison Ford later in American Graffiti - was later removed and a stock
steering wheel installed.
