Return of the Stingray: The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette DETROIT -- Chevrolet is redefining modern performance with today's debut of the all-new Corvette Stingray. And only a Corvette with the perfect balance of technology, design and performance can wear the iconic Stingray designation. The 2014 Corvette Stingray is the most powerful standard model ever, with an estimated 450 horsepower (335 kW) and 450 lb.-ft. of torque (610 Nm). It is also the most capable standard model ever, able to accelerate from 0-60 in less than four seconds and achieve more than 1g in cornering grip. It is expected to be the most fuel-efficient Corvette, exceeding the EPA-estimated 26 mpg of the current model. "Like the '63 Sting Ray, the best Corvettes embodied performance leadership, delivering cutting-edge technologies, breathtaking design and awe-inspiring driving experiences," said General Motors North America President Mark Reuss. 2014 Corvette Stingray: Great Car, Wimp Shifting
The 2014 Corvette Stingray had the chance to come out of the box with a car that could be a game changer but for that that wimp shifting gearbox. It is, however, still a great car. Why wouldn't they introduce the vehicle with a dual clutch system or a straight manual? Because Porsche and Nissan did. Porsche has made no excuses for phasing out the manual gearbox, but Ferrari did it in a rapid move as opposed to other manufacturers. One can only hope that the higher performance versions of this car will come with a Getrag or ZF dual clutch system and just kill the manual.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray - Super Car
The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray won't be on sale until late summer or early fall, but if you're too impatient to wait until then you can buy one this weekend. The rights to the very first seventh generation 'Vette to off of the assembly line will be sold for charity at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, this Saturday night. The high bidder for VIN #0001 will get to spec their car out as they please, with the proceeds of the sale going toward the College of Creative Studies in Detroit, which has a renowned automotive design program. This won't be the first time that the first of a new GM model has been offered at a Barrett-Jackson auction. NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick snagged the first 2010 Chevy Camaro SS for $350,000 at the 2009 Las Vegas event, and the first convertible version of the car there the following year for $205,000. He also picked up the first 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon edition and #0069 Camaro ZL1 at other events, marking him as the one to beat for the Stingray.
