A General Motors escolheu o Salão de Dubai, no Oriente Médio, para revelar o conceito Trailblazer, que antecipa a nova geração do utilitário esporte homônimo da divisão Chevrolet (duas gerações à frente do Blazer brasileiro). O modelo de sete lugares, derivado do picape Colorado, tem linhas típicas da atual fase da marca, com a grade em duas seções dividida pela barra com seu logotipo, mas mostra proporções mais harmoniosas que os "parentes" desenhados no Brasil. Vidros laterais e traseiro buscam a impressão de ser um só pelo uso de colunas em preto. O Trailblazer mantém a construção de carroceria sobre chassi, mais comum em picapes e cada vez mais rara em utilitários, tendo dado lugar ao monobloco na maioria dos modelos. O motor turbodiesel de 2,8 litros fornece 180 cv e 48 m.kgf. Com visual totalmente reformulado, a Ranger 2013 é oferecida na Ásia com duas opções de motor a diesel, ambos da família Duratorq: um 2.2 litros de 150 cavalos e um 3.2 litros de 200 cv. No Brasil, não se sabe qual será a motorização escolhida. A transmissão poderá ser manual ou automática, sempre com 6 marchas. Preços são desconhecidos, mas estima-se algo em torno de R$ 110.000. DUBAI -- Chevrolet's toughest, most- refined midsize sport utility vehicle, the TrailBlazer, made its global debut today at the opening of the Dubai International Motor Show in the Middle East. The robust seven-seat show vehicle previews Chevrolet's latest SUV offering, which will be sold around the world, beginning with Thailand in early 2012. The new-generation TrailBlazer combines the hauling and towing capability of a body-on-frame SUV with the ride comfort and efficiency of a crossover. Developed in tandem with the all-new Chevrolet Colorado pickup by GM do Brasil, it shares the same architecture as its truck sibling, with a chassis tuned to combine heavy-duty off-road capability with refined city driving. The show vehicle features an all-wheel-drive system and is powered by GM's new 2.8-liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine, which features a variable-geometry turbocharger for an optimal combination of performance and fuel economy. "It is a reflection of the importance of the Middle East market for General Motors that a vehicle as important as TrailBlazer is making its global debut at this show," said GM Middle East Operations President and Managing Director John Stadwick. It is highlighted by a bold exterior design, enhanced all-terrain suspension and premium details expected of a GMC -- all designed to enable greater access to off-road destinations. The new 2011 Sierra HD underpins the All Terrain HD concept, with a modified, production-based 4WD chassis and the Duramax diesel/Allison 1000 six-speed powertrain. The enhanced suspension and unique body dimensions, including increased ground clearance and wider track, as well as greater approach/departure angles, deliver off-road capability while maintaining HD levels of payload and trailering capacity. "The Sierra All Terrain HD concept takes GMC's outstanding new HD platform to the next level, marries it to the legendary Duramax diesel/Allison transmission, and provides a heavy-duty expression of GMC's premium All Terrain package," said Lisa Hutchinson, GMC product marketing director. Purposeful design From every angle, the All Terrain HD looks the part of a dedicated off-road performer, with bold, accentuated features complemented by a wide stance and tall profile. Streamlined bumpers are designed to enhance approach/departure angles and incorporate frame-mounted recovery hooks -- with integrated skid plates. A large, airflow-optimized grille maximizes cooling in tough conditions, while a forced-induction hood delivers more air to the Duramax diesel engine. "The design of the All Terrain HD is an expression of its capabilities -- strong, functional and absolutely professional grade," said Carl Zipfel, design manager. "We're excited about the design elements and exploring how they could apply to future GMCs." Large fender flares stretch away from the body to cover the 35-inch-tall BFGoodrich tires. At the rear, the cargo box features lockable, lighted storage compartments, along with a number of tie-down cleats, including a pair in the bed floor and two on each side of the bed. A non-slip rubber pad is used on the tailgate, while two special compartments inside the cargo box provide access to a 110-volt power outlet and air compressor. A composite bed liner with a unique "circuit board" pattern provides a protective cover for the bed. Motorized, deployable assist steps for the cab and cargo bed make it easier to enter and exit the All Terrain HD, while maximizing ground clearance during off-road driving. It also incorporates a number of industrial-grade lighting elements to provide greater visibility for safer driving where stars may be the only other source of illumination. 2011 Chevrolet Colorado Concept
Behold, the next-generation Chevrolet Colorado. Sort of. General Motors has yanked back the sheets on what the company is calling a show truck at the Bangkok International Motor Show. Despite the 'show' label, the mid-sizer is poised to go on sale in Thailand later this year packing a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel engine, though there are no firm details as to what we can expect in terms of either power or efficiency. GM did say that the Colorado won't leave buyers lacking for enough towing capacity, though. Odds are we can expect tricks like the 20-inch wheels and body-color tonneau cover to be nixed as the truck makes its way closer to production. Still, the vehicle is plenty sharp and looks to have the mechanical guts to give the global Ford Ranger a run for its money. But will GM offer the Colorado we see here in the States? That's a tough question. The automaker has made it clear that the Shreveport, Louisiana plant that manufactures the aging Colorado/GMC Canyon isn't long for this world, though we have heard rumors that the automaker isn't planning on killing the pickup all together. Here's hoping we'll see this truck or something similar in the States sometime soon.
