Ford Ranchero Drag Racing Barona Drag Strip 1-5-2013
Saturday during the test and tune at barona drag strip there were four
different ford ranchero's drag racing on the 1/8 mile.In 1960 the Ranchero
became much smaller, becoming based on Ford's compact Falcon, specifically
the two-door sedan delivery variant. The popularity of small, economical
cars like the Volkswagen Beetle perpetuated a shift in thinking among the
three largest American manufacturers; 1959 would see the introduction of
the 1960 Falcon along with the 1960 Chevrolet Corvair and Plymouth Valiant.
A pickup version of the Volkswagen Bus and a van version of the Chevrolet
Corvair were offered as well. The economic recession of the late 1950s
certainly played a role as well. Ford believed the market wanted a more
practical vehicle, one much smaller, lighter and cheaper than a full-size
pickup truck, and indeed the Ranchero sold well in this incarnation. Now
marketed in print as the "Falcon Ranchero," the new vehicle's standard
powerplant was an economical 144 cu in (2.4 L) straight-6. In 1961 the 170
cu in (2.8 L) straight-6 was offered, and in 1963 the optional 260 cu in
(4.3 L) V8 was offered in addition to the 144 and 170. The two-speed
Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission (offered between 1960 and 1963) or
three-speed C4 Cruise-O-Matic could be ordered as could a three-speed
manual transmission. The Ranchero had a 800 lb load capacity.
Note that there are three almost entirely different coupé utility bodies
for this generation of Falcon: the Australian Falcon Ute differed in having
a shorter rear overhang than North American models, a cargo box that
extended farther forward than the rear window, and shorter doors; while the
Argentinian version also shared the sedan's overall length and short
"4-door" doors, adding higher and more squared-off cargo box sides.
The Ranchero evolved along with the Falcon in 1964, becoming just a little
larger along with its parent and using the same basic body style for 1964
and 1965. In 1965, the 289 cu in (4.7 L) V8 replaced the discontinued 260
and an alternator replaced the generator in all Ford cars. While
Chevrolet's El Camino used the same body from 1968 to 1972, 1970 saw a
complete restyle for Ranchero, which had started with a boxy body style.
Both the Torino and Ranchero featured a shallow-pointed grille and front
end with smooth, somewhat more curvaceous lines influence by coke bottle
styling. A fourth trim option was made available in 1970. The Ranchero
Squire (pictured) was an upmarket trim package which featured a woodgrain
applique similar to that found on the Country Squire station wagon. Like in
previous years, all Torino options could be ordered, including all-new
Ram-Air 429 Cobra Jet or Super Cobra Jet engines (7 L) with a slightly
different "shaker" hood scoop borrowed from the Mustang, so named because it was
directly mounted to the carburetor and shook with the engine at idle. Also
available was a stylish grille that featured hide-away headlamps as well as
an optional hood with an oversized scoop which was standard on Torino GTs.
The 1971 is distinguished by a grilled divided by a center section.
A minor but nevertheless important variation debuted with the 1970 model.
Prior to 1970, no Ranchero had any interior badging identifying it as such.
With the 1970 model came a "RANCHERO" or "RANCHERO GT" badge on the glove
compartment rather than Fairlane or Torino badging.
132635 / 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28
For more information on this vehicle visit http://tinyurl.com/bmkj7a5
This sizzling black and orange 1979 Camaro is a documented, numbers
matching Z28 that is fresh out of a top-notch restoration which combines
the best virtues of originality with straight body and a fresh interior.
Built in Van Nuys, California and delivered to William H. Stahl Chevrolet
in Southampton, Pennsylvania this 1979 Z28 looks flat out sinister in its
slick coat of correct GM code 19 black paint. During its 32 years of
careful and limited road time, this F2 has never been wrecked,
significantly damaged in any way or torn apart for itemized repairs.
Recently, the car was fully restored to better than new condition and
presents exceptionally straight panel alignment which lends the fresh gloss
black basecoat/clearcoat a straight and smooth sheen from panel to panel.
Pop the hood on this cool '79 F-body and you'll find the cars original LM1
350 cubic inch small block V8! Mechanically, this 350 is a great sounding
motor that has been immaculately maintained throughout its entire
existence. Visually, it's a clean piece in a highly correct engine
compartment that presents extremely well. Just below the hood, a satin
black air cleaner pipes cool air into a correct Quadrajet carburetor that's
equipped with a correct yellow spring. Below that carburetor, the engine
block displays GM's traditional corporate blue paint from its intake to its
oil pan and sends Exhaust through
original cast iron Exhaust manifolds
that still retain their factory heat shields. At the back of the motor, a
correct Delco-Remy HEI distributor sends fire through gray suppression plug
wires, and at the front of the motor, a new battery and fresh cables join
correct hoses, correct clamps and fresh V-belts to provide rock solid
Underneath this Camaro,
straight and solid floorpans are bolted to a clean 32 year old chassis over
an original 3-speed turbo-Hydramatic
automatic transmission and a correct option GU6 10 bolt Posi-traction rear
axle with performance biased 3.42 gears. If you're a Chevrolet fan, then
you know any time an F option code is listed on the build sheet, it means
some serious suspension upgrades. According to this Camaros build sheet, it is
equipped with the Z28 specific F41 special suspension which for 1979, added
higher rate springs, stiffer valved shocks, and a thick rear sway bar. That
aggressive handling package is further augmented by correct J50 power front
disc and power rear drum brakes and factory equipped power steering. At the
center of the car, a fresh mandrel bent dual Exhaust system makes good use of an H-pipe and
factory replacement mufflers; and at the back of the car a new stainless
fuel tank sends fuel through new stainless fuel lines. Torque flows to the
pavement through beautifully restored 15 inch GM turbine wheels that wear
modern 225/70 BF Goodrich Radial T/As at all four corners.
This Camaro's well
maintained GM code 74R Carmine Red interior looks good and feels great. The
custom cloth seats benefit from firm padding and solid frames that are in
excellent shape, and great looking reproduction carpet is protected by
correct front and rear factory optioned floor mats. On the roof, a tight
headliner frames a round dome light that, along with all of the other
factory optioned accessory lights, works like brand new. Between the seats,
a red full length console houses a correct factory shifter in front of
chrome switches for the cars optional power windows. In front of the
shifter, a soft and warp free dash houses new for 1979 gauges above
controls for the cars HVAC system and a date correct radio. At the sides of
the seats, stainless trimmed door panels feature cool "Z28" emblems along
with stainless trim, chrome door handles and like-new door grabs. The
simulated rope steering wheel looks perfect atop its red tilt column, and
behind the rear seats, you'll find a restored trunk that contains a correct
14 inch Stowaway spare tire.
With an original numbers matching drivetrain and a killer color
combination, this '79 Z28 is the kind of car that you can drive and show
off for years while watching its value grow. Call, click or visit

SEMA Drag Race: Hellcat vs Blasphemi vs Jeep FC vs Sonic! - 2014 SEMA Week Ep. 5
We've reached the final day of 2014 SEMA Week brought to you by 76, and
only we would dare to bring this ridiculous mix of vehicles together for a
grudge race on an unprepped airport runway. Fred Williams, Jessi Lang, Mike
Sabounchi and Mike Finnegan begged and bribed SEMA Show exhibitors to loan
them vehicles for a ¼ mile drag race and, though Finnegan and Sabounchi
failed, the group still managed to acquire a Jeep riding on tank treads, a
fresh-off-the-floor 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat, the infamous
Hemi-powered ’55 Chevy Bel Air from Roadkill, and a turbocharged 2013 Chevy Sonic to do battle.
The racers are as different as the cars. Finnegan lives in the world of hot
rods, Lang regularly pilots the best the OEM carmakers have to offer,
Williams spends all of his time in the dirt, and Sabounchi hops up every
compact car on the planet. Who will come out on top? Watch and find out!
