New TVS Apache 180 RTR 2012
New TVS Apache 180 RTR 2012 TVS Apache 180 RTR 2012 TVS Apache launched
The first spyshots of the new Apache RTR180 have begun doing the rounds on
the interweb. The Apache RTR180 gets a new headlamp fairing. A full fairing
is not a part of the equation yet, ostensibly so as adding a full fairing
to the Apache without Boosting power
and torque would mean that the motorcycle would lose its edge of a high
power to weight ratio, which TVS has been harping about in most of the
Apart from the new headlamp fairing, TVS has also changed added a faux
carbon fiber insert around the instrumentation console. The faux carbon
fiber effect also continues downward to the tank scoops. The new Apache
also gets solid decals, a-la-Bajaj Pulsar on the tank. Graphics too see a
change on the tank. A nice touch though is the addition of the Indian
flag's insignia on the rear panels. This detail seems to have taken
inspiration from the Ducati Monster, which features the Italian colors. The
pillion footpegs are now all-metal items and that's a welcome functional
change. Previously, only the rider footpegs had this detail.
On the whole, the new Apache is a style job that picks up various styling
elements from existing products. So, its essentially a copy cat me-too
design change, disappointingly so. The engine is expected to be the same
180cc single cylinder, SOHC 2 valve layout that is revvy and grunty pumping
out 17.3 Bhp-15.5 Nm. Perhaps, the Apache can trundle along for one more
season with this facelift although the competition is well and truly moving
on to bigger and better things. The facelift also looks like a stop gap
move to keep the interest around TVS Motors' flagship model buzzing until a
new flagship arrives.
Since the facelifted TVS Apache RTR180 has been captured on a showroom
stockyard, it is just a matter of time before the official launch of this
motorcycle happens in India. Expect these changes to trickle down to the
160cc variant as well. It remains to be seen whether TVS will effect a
price bump on the facelifted model. One notable feature of the TVS Apache
RTR180 is that it comes with an optional anti-lock braking system(ABS).
This ABS system is quite unique in that it can be turned on and off through
a switch mounted on the instrument console.
