MONTVALE, New Jersey — The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet close in on the BMW 5 Series with a new, slightly edgier look and greater attention to safety systems.
The 2014 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet will go on sale in the U.S. in the summer.
Mercedes-Benz USA told Edmunds that the two models will be "similar" in price to the 2013 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet.
Official pricing on the 2014 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet has not been released.
"Won't change much," wrote Christian Bokich, a Mercedes-Benz USA spokesman, in response to an e-mailed query regarding pricing.
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz E350 Coupe starts at $52,025, including a $905 destination charge. The 2013 Mercedes-Benz E350 Cabriolet starts at $59,975, including shipping.
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz E550 Coupe starts at $58,865, including a $905 destination charge. The 2013 Mercedes-Benz E550 Cabriolet starts at $67,125, including shipping.
The extensive Mercedes-Benz E-Class lineup targets the Audi A6, Infiniti M sedan and Lexus GS, in addition to the BMW 5 Series.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet have hewed to traditional styling virtues in the past, but there are changes on tap for the 2014 model year. The redesigned coupe and cabriolet get a new, more aggressive-looking front end with new headlights. The headlights are fitted with partial LED lights as standard, while full LED headlights are optional for the first time in this segment, according to Mercedes-Benz.
The front bumpers get a more defined V-shape with large air intakes. New taillights and a wide rear bumper are also part of the package.
The interior of the 2014 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet gets a redesigned center console and a new three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with shift paddles. New interior color combinations include blue with contrasting beige trim.
Safety is a priority with the redesign.
New assistance systems in the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet include technology that can help prevent accidents with crossing vehicles or pedestrians, as well as an enhanced version of Active Lane Keeping Assist. The automaker says Active Lane Keeping Assist now can detect when the adjacent lane is not clear, including when it is occupied by oncoming traffic.
"If a collision threatens, even if the lane marking is not a solid line, the system can prevent the vehicle from leaving its lane unintentionally by applying the brakes on one side," said Mercedes-Benz.
The 2014 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet also feature an ECO stop-start system on all engines.
The engines on the 2014 models are carryover. The E350 gets the 302-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine, while the E550 Coupe and Cabriolet are equipped with the 402-hp 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8 engine.
Edmunds says: Mercedes-Benz tweaks the look of the 2014 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet to bring it more in line with the redesigned E-Class sedan.

2014 Mercedes S-Class - assistance systems animation
Mercedes has officially unveiled the 2014 S-Class at the Airbus A380 delivery center in Hamburg, Germany.
Designed to become one of the most luxurious and advanced vehicles ever constructed, the 2014 S-Class has an evolutionary design that incorporates a sportier front fascia, a larger grille and a gentle slanting rear end. The sleek styling enables the model to have drag coefficient of 0.24 which is pretty impressive considering the pint-sized CLA has a drag coefficient of 0.23.

The interior is characterised by the redesigned centre console without selector lever, as well as a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with DIRECT SELECT lever and shift paddles in conjunction with automatic transmission.
One special benefit of the new E-Class Cabriolet is that, thanks to the acoustic soft top with its particularly high-grade insulation, the vehicle has the lowest noise level in its class. The unique acoustic soft top ensures that even at high speeds, only very little wind noise is heard in the interior.
For exceptional comfort when driving with the top down, the speed-dependent AIRCAP system is available as an option. This reduces wind swirl within the vehicle interior and therefore noise levels, too. New: the AIRCAP system deploys automatically at speeds exceeding 40 km/h and the wind deflector in the front windscreen frame automatically retracts again below 15 km/h. This ensures that the E-Class Cabriolet appears at its purest and most alluring when driving slowly and when stationary. The draught-stop between the rear head restraints responds to the number of vehicle occupants (passengers in the rear are detected if the rear seat belts are in use). The positions of the extendable wind deflector in the windscreen frame and the draught-stop are then adjusted accordingly.
Also optionally available: AIRSCARF neck-level heating. This addition extends the cabriolet season by ensuring it is comfortable to drive with the top down, even when it is cold outside.
There is a wide choice of powerful petrol and diesel engines for the E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet. All are highly efficient and equipped with the ECO start/stop system. Six petrol engines are available ranging in output from 135 kW (184 hp) to 300 kW (408 hp) and there are also three diesel engines ranging from 125 kW (170 hp) to 195 kW (265 hp).

The new E 63 AMG -- with 4MATIC and as S-Model
Affalterbach -- Mercedes-AMG continues to champion performance, dynamism and efficiency: the new E 63 AMG is now available as a particularly powerful S-Model with an output of 430 kW (585 hp), 800 Newton metres of torque and featuring a newly developed performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. The AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine continues to be the absolute pinnacle of efficiency: the combination of high performance and low fuel consumption remains unrivalled by any other competitor in the segment worldwide. The permanent all-wheel drive is also optionally available for the other E 63 AMG models -- on which the V8 engine has been uprated from 86 kW (525 hp) to 410 kW (557 hp), with 720 Nm of torque. With this range, Mercedes-AMG is premiering high-performance passenger car models with an all-wheel-drive system geared to driving dynamics.
The launch of the new, customised model variants will offer Mercedes-AMG customers greater scope for individuality than ever before. The new E 63 AMG presents a more powerful character and a more dynamic appearance than all its predecessors: the new AMG design philosophy is immediately apparent at first glance, with the new "twin blade" radiator grille and the new "A-wing" in the AMG front apron defining the exclusive look. As previously, the top AMG model is available as a Saloon and Estate. The E 63 AMG's appeal is also Boosted by substantially enhanced value for money: customers now receive more performance and driving dynamics and a broader scope of standard equipment and appointments.
The CLS 63 AMG also benefits from the new model range constellation: similarly to the E 63 AMG, the Coupé and Shooting Brake will also be available with performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Alongside the successful SUVs -- ML 63 AMG, GL 63 AMG, G 63 AMG and G 65 AMG - two passenger car model ranges comprising up to eight unique models with all-wheel drive are now available from Mercedes-AMG in the guise of the E 63 AMG and the CLS 63 AMG. Additional models featuring performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive, such as the A 45 AMG and the CLA 45 AMG, will follow this year.

Acceleration to 100 km/h from a standing start in 3.6 seconds provides the E 63 AMG S-Model with a comfortable lead over the entire competition; the top speed stands at 250 km/h (electronically limited). In addition to the increase in output, this is also attributable in no small part to the performance-oriented
AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive with a power distribution ratio of 33 to 67 percent (front/rear axle). Perfect traction during acceleration effectively avoids slip-induced losses.
On the new S-Model the AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine generates a maximum output of 430 kW (585 hp) and maximum torque of 800 Newton metres -- representing an increase of 20 kW (28 hp) over the AMG Performance package which was previously available as an option. This enhanced performance and power results from adaptation of the engine application, an increase in peak pressure and a rise in the charge pressure from 0.9 to 1.0 bar. At 410 kW (557 hp) and 720 Newton metres, the basic model also boasts an increase of 24 kW (32 hp) and 20 Newton metres over its predecessor.
Despite added power and enhanced performance, all models of the E 63 AMG offer high efficiency, low fuel consumption and low Exhaust emissions.

The new E-Class and E-class Coupe were awarded "best-looking car in the world" by AUTOBILD Magazine. 100,000 readers of AUTOBILD voted the E-Class Coupé as the best looking in the "Coupé and Cabriolet" category, as well as electing the Saloon as the overall winner among all new models.[19]

As part of E-Class Cabriolet market launch, 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet appeared in the Sex and the City 2 movie.
The performance version of the E-Class, the E63 AMG is the first sedan built entirely by AMG. With a 518 hp (386 kW) engine, the E63 can achieve a top speed of around 200 mph (320 km/h) (electronic limiter off), and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 4.3 seconds.[citation needed]
The styling has been altered for both aesthetic and practical purposes: AMG side skirts and rear apron give the E63 more aggressive styling, and the larger air apertures on the front of the car allow for more air intake to the naturally aspirated 6.2 litre V8. Another styling change on the E63 is the wider, flared front wheel arches which accommodate the AMG front axle with a 2.2-inch-wider (56 mm) track.[9]
For 2012, Mercedes-Benz started offering a bi-turbo V8 version. It has a W157, 5.5L twin-turbo V8, that is rated at 518 hp (386 kW), which is mated to a 7-speed AMG Speedshift MCT transmission[10]
Portland Speed Industries, a performance shop in Hillsboro, OR, have tested a 2012 E63 AMG biturbo on their Dynojet dynamometer and it produced 479 whp and 561 lb·ft (761 N·m) of torque.[11]
Erebus Racing, in conjunction with Stone Brothers Racing, have announced that they will race three E63's in the V8 Supercars from 2013.

The E-Class Coupe replaced the CLK in 2009, the change in name signifying a slight increase in size for Mercedes' stylish two-door model. Style is important in the coupe marketplace and the E-Class Coupe delivers, with the sharp edges, quad headlamps and a sweeping roofline creating a dramatic shape. It's quite practical too, with a large boot and useable rear seats. A wide choice of engines and two trim levels mean there's an E-Class Coupé for almost all tastes, although surprisingly there's no high-performance AMG flagship.
