1958 CADILLAC FLEETWOOD SIXTY SPECIAL 2
1958 CADILLAC FLEETWOOD 60 SPECIAL There was no more eloquent statement of having arrived in 1958 than pulling up to the country club or bank in a Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special. Redesigned in 1958 with a strikingly handsome profile accentuated by the lower Stainless Ribbed Panel that began behind the rear doors and terminating at the "Exhaust ports"; all this below the towering rocket fins, complemented the overall striking and bold styling of this Cadillac. Standard equipment included just about everything that would fit on the car from Cadillac's long list of luxury features and conveniences including power vent windows and a 6-way power front seat. Only 12,900 were built, less than half of the production of the Sedan De-Ville and a tenth of the already low 121,778 Cadillac's produced in 1958. This example has always lived in the South and was stored in a museum for the last 23 years. I purchased the car for my collection in 2006 and upon receiving the car had it thoroughly serviced and detailed, including the restoration of the original air-ride system. Most of the interior appears to be all original with beautiful two tone silver material and silver flecked cloth upholstery, the original molded headliner even the carpets appear original and are well preserved. In addition to the long list of standard features on the Fleetwood Sixty-Special it has factory air conditioning, and correct original working air ride leaving little or nothing for any collector to desire in the way of equipment or condition. An elegant but also practical addition to any collection, it is adaptable to long trips, local parades, weekend trips of out of town, or a quick trip to the bank or the country club where it will be unlikely to find anything even close to similar in the parking lot. ACCESSORIES: Radio with antenna and rear speaker Posture seat adjuster Six-Way seat adjuster Power window regulators E-Z-Eye Glass Fog lamps Automatic headlamp beam control White sidewall 8.20 x 15 four-ply tires Four-door door guards Remote control trunk lock License plate frame Air conditioning Air suspension . The owner told me the car is mostly original. The following is what he did to the car: · Repaint · New tires · New battery · New trunk kit Once I received the car, I restored the vinyl dashboard, & had the original air ride professionally restored. I've looked around the car and it does appear to be a mainly original, with some professionally restored components. This is the 3rd '58 I've owned and probably the 100th I've seen and this is hands down one of the nicest '58's out there. According to the owner of the museum he is the second owner so this car went from one owner to a museum to my collection and is now for the first time available for public purchase and viewing since the museums closing in the mid 1990's. Car runs and drives as nicely as it looks.

With an original drivetrain, all original sheet metal and extensive documentation this Biarritz is fully functional investment grade Cadillac worthy of any show field. From the graceful cut of the wheel arches to the dramatic tailfins atop the downswept rear fender line, absolutely every piece of this car was designed to appear in motion at all times. The flowing bodywork is covered in a smooth coat of Alpine White that enhances the cars luxury demeanor. The paintwork shows well in even the harshest of lighting and provides a constant reminder of one of the reasons this Caddy has collected so many trophies. From the full length grille to the tail fins, every piece of chrome has been fully refurbished to showroom condition. Out back, a three-piece parade boot covers the white convertible top. Under that long hood lives the original 365 cubic inch V8. In its day, this was a top of the line motor utilizing a comfortable 10.25:1 compression ratio to produce an enviable 335hp and 405lb. ft. or torque. At the top of the bay, three Rochester two-barrel carburetors bolted to the original intake manifold are hidden by the gold-colored two-snorkel air cleaner cover. The block, cast iron heads and intake wear their correct shade of blue well with the Cadillac name scribed across the valve covers.. To the sides, cast iron manifolds channel Exhaust gases out through a stainless steel dual Exhaust system with angled chrome tips. Behind that V8 is a Hydra-Matic three speed automatic transmission well suited to casual cruising. It channels power to the live rear axle which in turn spins those polished Sabre wheels wrapped in white-wall tires. The chassis has been rebuilt to factory specifications with a fully independent suspension up front and a four link with coil springs keeping the back end in place. . Braking comes courtesy of large drum brakes at all four corners. Documentation for this car is a treasure trove of Cadillac history. There are typical items such as receipts and an album full of detailed restoration pictures. An original owner's manual and separate booklets detailing how to operate the jack and power top are also included. From there, things go to the next level with two primary shop manuals as well as secondary manuals that cover additional information. A large three ring binder contains an original copy of the Master Parts List that details every square inch of this car in amazing detail. While it's difficult to point to any classic Cadillac as the defining Cadillac of its era, this '58 certainly has all the hallmarks.
