1978 Mercury Cougar Brougham - Cold Start 2-14-10

here it is...the cold start of the ol cougar. I finished installing the am/fm/cd/mp3/dvd player this afternoon along with a set of walmart special VR3 5.5's in the doors, and a set of VR3 6x9's in boxes in the back seat.....she plays pretty sweet. Keep checking back for more updates on the near completion of this fine hot rod from hell....all thats left is custom Exhaust and paint.....maybe some wheels who knows...ENJOY!!!!!!

Cold Start 1978 Ford CUSTOM 500, 460 Police Interceptor
Cold Start on my RARE 1978 Ford Custom 500, 460 POLICE INTERCEPTOR (Pursuit Special) Package. Notice the "CERTIFIED CALIBRATION" on my speedo cluster and notice it is in Kilometers NOT Miles Per Hour. Rare X-RCMP Pursuit Special. 1 of 4 specially built Police Interceptors. 0-54 MPH in 1st gear 54-102 MPH in 2nd gear 102- Unlimited MPH (146 MPH .est) in 3rd gear.... LOOONG TALL 3rd gear! 0-60 in 6.53 1/4 mile = 14.54 @ 102mph (with some tire spin off the line) just shifting into 3rd at the end of the 1/4 mile. With 295-65-15 E.T Street drag radials 0-60 in 5.8 seconds 1/4 mile in 13.61 @ 102 Curb weight WITH driver 5300 Pounds! Cam is an "Interceptor" grind cam.. made to optimize torque. True Dual Exhaust thru 2 1/2 inch Exhaust with H-pipe. I removed the original Ford Police Performance mufflers and put on Dynomax Ultra Flows... didnt really notice any differance in performance. But they are a little louder than the Police Mufflers. Added headers!! filmed on my cell phone... quality :( filmed in 2010. K thanx

For sale in our Louisville showroom is a 1978 Mercury Cougar XR-7. This Deep Black beauty has been pampered throughout its entire life and has only traveled 23791 miles since new. In addition to being a well preserved car this big-body classic is also a smooth and comfortable driving car. With one quick turn of the key, this 351 Cubic Inch Windsor V8 fires right up and idles smoothly. Under the hood you will notice that the entire engine compartment is in good shape and is absent of any rust or corrosion commonly seen on older cars. The 3-speed automatic transmission shifts effortlessly and will get this full size car up to highway speeds without hesitation. To keep things in good running order, new springs, 4 new shocks, a fresh dual Exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers, new battery, new plug wires, new distributor cap, new spark plugs and a new brake master cylinder. There are also extra parts in the trunk which include a grill, mirrors and other miscellaneous parts. The original paint looks good but does show its age. Open one of those large doors and you will be greeted by a very nice and clean gray cloth interior with all of the power accessories you would expect of luxury car of the time. Power options include power steering and power brakes. The air conditioning system is intact, but will need to be checked out, as noticed by the absence of the AC belt. The original Mercury Hub Caps with the Cougar Insignia look fantastic.
