87 Chevy Truck Project Update - Flowmaster Exhaust Sound - 20 December 2013
Stepping away from the "Squirter Project" and back to the 87 Chevy Truck. I go over the LS 5.3 with 4.8 flat top pistons that will be installed into the truck, a 60/40 bench with folding console that I plan to install and few other lil things that I've been working on it... like installing HEAT! That was important... ========================================= Follow me on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/AGearHead4Life?ref=br_tf ===================================== Below are some of the 5.3 swap videos on this truck that were made after this point. Dyno 5.3 Home Ported Heads '84 Chevy C10 LS6 Cam 4L80E Truck
I finally got the truck on the Dyno (4 Jan 13) for the "After" Dyno. After the home ported heads and a tune on my 5.3 with LS6 cam through a 4L80E. There are a couple variables of course (always are). For one the weather was the complete opposite as it was the first time. A lot cooler. Around 55 instead of the 100+. Another is that this was with the tune adjustment. We dont know how lean it was on the first run before the heads. Either way, the truck put down respectable numbers with a baby LS6 cam and the 80e trans. It had an increase of 47rwhp and 55 ft lb of torque. Bringing it to 329 rwhp and 334 ft lb of torque. Thats very close if not right at 400 hp at the flywheel accounting for the hp loss through the 80e trans. No longer running lean. Cool part is that this is exactly where I guestimated it to be. Now I just need to hold back this itch for a larger cam and focus on my turbo LSx 92 Camaro build. I do think that this truck could greatly benefit from a stall on this 80e though. I just have to remember that the purpose of this build is to be a street work truck to tow my Camaro around and not a race truck. 84 C10 5.3 Z06 Cam Idle and a lil rev Walk Around
DIRTY, BUT SHE'S ON THE ROAD!! Been driving her around for about a month now making sure to work out any issues. So far there havent really been any. Im just focused on building a rear end for it now. I got to get that open diff 2.41 gear out of there! This build so far has been under $2,000 bucks! I need to recalculate with some precision, but that's what I honestly believe I have in this build including purchasing the truck, engine, trans and drop kit BUT of course not counting my labor :) All I can say is patience, it took me probably a year gathering deals to build this. Its junk yard rescue 1984 Chevrolet C10 with a Z06 Cam'd 2001 5.3 and a 4L80E transmission. 4" drop - 3" Belltech spindles, 1" Belltech front drop springs, shackles and hangers. The C10 Replacement Truck Project - 87 Chevrolet Truck R10 TBI
As most of you know, the '84 C10 build project was stolen 15 February 2013. This is the first video of the replacement Square Body Truck. About a week ago (2 March 2013) I was contacted by a guy on Facebook about a truck for sale. They next day I took out a loan and drove 4 hours to pick it up. That week I've spent more than 30 hours getting it together and running. Its running like a champ now. Exhaust will be welded up next week and hopefully the transmission will be replaced also. On this episode of Dirt Every Day, Fred and the Off Road Connection crew decide it's time to seriously upgrade the power on the Alabama Army truck. The solution? Ls1 cam swap part 2
This video I actually remove the old cam and install the LS1 cam in my 5.3. The swap was very easy.. So easy in fact a brain dead monkey could do it. Just make sure all you spin the cam over several times so the lifter trays catch all the lifters and hold them in place.. Worse comes to worse you can stick some wooden dowels on either side of the lifter tunnel to prevent a rogue lifter from falling into the oil pan aka the dark abyss.

Dirt Cheap Rat Rod! 1968 Charger Buildup and Thrash - Roadkill Ep. 23
Freiburger and Finnegan think this is the best episode so far! It's the longest, too. This show has it all: a Mad-Max-vibe 1968 Dodge Charger built with motorhome parts, sideways Dukes-style action, lots of low-buck wrenching, hilarious snafus, and cameo appearances by the Macho Grande from episode 8, the '66 Buick Special convertible from a pre-Roadkill episode, the ramp truck from episode 20, and the Fury from episode 22. Enjoy the last Roadkill of 2013! How To LS1 Head Porting 853 vs 243 - DIY with Great Results! LS2 Z06 LS6 LS LSx
Audio is muted for most of the vid due to copy rights. Watch out for the air grinder! This is a video of my progress and results of porting a set of LS1 853 heads. Flow results showed the ported 853's were greatly improved and out flow'd the z06 243 heads. If you look at my channel or other videos you'll find a 10 part set of videos of my step by step DIY LS1 Head porting where I did a pair of 862's that went on a 5.3 in my 84 C10. Tools Used: Electric Die Grinder - Makita GD0800C Non Furious (For aluminum) Burr kit from Summit is best. 1/4" Shank about 4-6" long. You could also find cheaper on Ebay, but I dont think they are as good in quality. Sanding rolls and mandrels can be found on Eastwood, summit, ebay and roughstuff.com. A couple of important things are: 1. Aluminum burr is a different burr than the steel cutting burr 2. Electric grinder works better for me. My 21 gal air compressor couldn't keep up with an air grinder. You may even be able to just use a drill. 3. Lube can help the cutting especially on steel.
