You need the adapter plates called the "One Inch Set-back" plates. They'll place the engine and trans perfectly so that you can use your original driveshaft without modification. They can be found on eBay for $60 shipped. Dyno 5.3 Home Ported Heads '84 Chevy C10 LS6 Cam 4L80E Truck
I finally got the truck on the Dyno (4 Jan 13) for the "After" Dyno. After the home ported heads and a tune on my 5.3 with LS6 cam through a 4L80E. There are a couple variables of course (always are). For one the weather was the complete opposite as it was the first time. A lot cooler. Around 55 instead of the 100+. Another is that this was with the tune adjustment. We dont know how lean it was on the first run before the heads. Either way, the truck put down respectable numbers with a baby LS6 cam and the 80e trans. It had an increase of 47rwhp and 55 ft lb of torque. Bringing it to 329 rwhp and 334 ft lb of torque. Thats very close if not right at 400 hp at the flywheel accounting for the hp loss through the 80e trans. No longer running lean. Cool part is that this is exactly where I guestimated it to be. Now I just need to hold back this itch for a larger cam and focus on my turbo LSx 92 Camaro build. I do think that this truck could greatly benefit from a stall on this 80e though. I just have to remember that the purpose of this build is to be a street work truck to tow my Camaro around and not a race truck. 1985 GMC truck LS swap start
My 85 GMC truck. I just got it running, 03-09-13, and decided to share a video. The motor is a 2001 5.3 liter vortec out of a Silverado. I've been driving it around the neighborhood until I finish all the little things. It has great power over the old 350. I go over the LS 5.3 with 4.8 flat top pistons that will be installed into the truck, a 60/40 bench with folding console that I plan to install and few other lil things that I've been working on it... like installing HEAT!
