A Racer Tries To Repair His Car For 2 Hours - Le Mans 24 (Deltawing)

Nissan DeltaWing driver Satoshi Motoyama's caught up in the lead battle between a gaggle of Audis and the Toyota hybrid of ex-Formula One star Kazuki Nakajima. The former Williams driver appeared not to see the DeltaWing, being driven by his fellow Japanese Motoyama, and gave it a hefty sideswipe in the Porsche Curves. Heart rending attempts fail to re-inject life into the ground breaking Nissan DeltaWing, ending the car's assault on the Le Mans 24 hours and forcing "the 'fans' favourite" to retire.

Le Mans 2012 - Nissan Deltawing debuts at Le Mans
Nissan has released a video of the test at Le Mans. This will be the only chance for entrants to this year's Le Mans 24 Hours to set their cars up for the big race on June 16/17. For Nissan, the test represented the Company's biggest commitment to the famous French endurance race to date. Nissan will power a quarter of the entire Le Mans 24 Hours field this year, with particular dominance in the LMP2 class, in which 13 out of 20 cars will use Nissan engines. The star of the show was the radical Nissan DeltaWing which aims to complete the legendary endurance race using half the fuel and half the number of tyres of its fellow Le Mans entrants. All of Nissan's key cars performed admirably, with a top 20 place for 2011 LMP2 champion team, Greaves Motorsport, and a trouble-free day of running for the experimental Nissan DeltaWing. TRUTH IN 24 II - Every Second Counts
The Le Mans 24 Hours are a legend. They are mentioned in the same breath as the Rallye Monte Carlo, the Monaco Grand Prix and the Indianapolis 500. Since 1923, hundreds of thousands of motorsport enthusiasts have been flocking to La Sarthe year by year to experience the one-day race. To watch the protagonists in their sports cars battle for each place and each meter of tarmac with bated breath. The drivers cover 4,800 kilometers in 24 hours - almost as many as the Formula One racers in a whole year. Every Le Mans winner has gone down in history. The three Audi drivers Andr‚ Lotterer, BenoŒt Tr‚luyer and Marcel F„ssler did so in a special way with the triumph they achieved in 2011. The film TRUTH IN 24 II documents the tenth and arguably most emotional triumph of the brand with the four rings at this sports car classic. After two Audi R18 TDI cars have retired following spectacular accidents, the remaining Audi fights a dramatic battle for overall victory with the three Peugeot 908 cars ? which the Audi trio ultimately decides in its favor with a narrow margin of 13 seconds. The film captures the entire drama of the fourth-narrowest running of the Le Mans 24 Hours ? with intimate insights into the team of Audi Sport and breath-taking pictures. Motorcycle Tire Technology - Inside Racing Grip
In motorcycle racing - competing without protecting crumple zones - the tires decide more than just the racing results... and that´s why they are so important. Motorcycle tires make totally different demands on the material than car tires do... More than 200 PS are transferred to the track via a small contact patch in the size of a coin - yet, the tire constantly changes its position... Dunlop Inside Racing explains how this challenge is solved!

The Nissan DeltaWing racecar
Nissan DeltaWing 'unlike any other racing car currently on the track' Nissan DeltaWing is half the weight and uses half the fuel of its conventional counterparts Will run at Le Mans powered by only a 1.6 litre engine Nissan is aiming to change the face of endurance racing forever by becoming a founding partner in the most radical motorsport project of its time -- Nissan DeltaWing. A race-prepared 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine, featuring direct petrol injection and a turbocharger, will power Nissan DeltaWing as it races in anger for the first time at the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours (16-17 June). It weighs half that of a conventional racing car and will have half the aerodynamic drag meaning it will use half the fuel of its competitors. The engine, badged DIG-T (Direct Injection Gasoline -- turbocharged), is expected to produce around 300hp, sufficient to give Nissan DeltaWing lap times between LMP1 and LMP2 machines at Le Mans, despite having only half the power of those conventional prototypes. While Nissan DeltaWing will not be classified in the 2012 Le Mans 24 Hours, the Company is looking to showcase the pioneering technology that will show one potential direction for the future of motorsport and will feed into the research and development of future technologies, that filter down to Nissan's road car product range. "As motor racing rulebooks have become tighter over time, racing cars look more and more similar and the technology used has had less and less relevance to road car development. Nissan DeltaWing aims to change that and we are delighted to have become part of the project," said Andy Palmer, Executive Vice President, Global Product Planning. Nissan DeltaWing is unlike any other racing car currently on track. The driver sits well back in the car, almost over the rear axle and looks ahead down a long, narrow fuselage to narrow twin front tyres, specially created for the car by tyre partner Michelin. With a rear-mounted engine, the car has a strong rearward weight bias, which makes it highly manoeuvrable, while its light weight and shape make it far more efficient. Its innovative design and forward-looking technology have encouraged the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO), the organisers of the famous Le Mans 24 Hours, to invite the car to run in this year's race from 'Garage 56', the spot in the pitlane reserved for experimental cars. As it doesn't conform to any existing championship regulations, Nissan DeltaWing will not be eligible to challenge for silverware and will carry the race number '0'. The first two Nissan DeltaWing drivers to be confirmed are British Sportscar racer, Marino Franchitti, and Nissan's reigning FIA GT1 World Champion, German Michael Krumm.
