I have has a chance to drive the car for a few days now, it just arrived last week. We are barely into calendar 2013 yet but this is a 2014 model. The car industry will never follow the proper calendar. We are living in the future here. The materials are absolutely top notch. Mid-sized cars are generally called family cars. This is a family car but for anyone who wants to have a little bit more fun with the car this car can sure take a corner and has enough power for most people to get pretty excited about. This is our second SKYACTIV engine. Mazda's answer to the problem posed by rising fuel prices. It is a re-think of the internal combustion engine first and foremost. Mazda engineers tried to tweak the internal combustion engine to get the most power out of every drop of fuel that goes in there. The engine is a 13 to 1 compression ratio which is a combustion ratio not normally seen in an everyday passenger car. This vehicle has a lot of low end torque. Powering out of a corner the power is immediate; the transmission knows exactly what gear to be in. All of the down shifts are revv matched. It feels like a relatively high performance vehicle while still being just a 4 cylinder engine. This is our second vehicle to feature what they call a KODO soul of motion design language. What it is supposed to invoke is the feeling of movement, without the car actually moving. The lines on the car really make it stand out on the road. There really is something special about this car where mid-sized cars traditionally are kind of practical. Whereas this car is a lot of fun to drive, it gets great fuel economy. It is a winning package if you will. This vehicle really should be competing in a higher category. Mazda6 Design Video Review with Mazda Director of Design, Derek Jenkins... The all-new 2014 Mazda6 Design has become a "must" in the Mazda6 vernacular vs. "should have" within some of the midsize competitors offerings. And Mazda's all-new 2014 6 is loaded with it. From the SHINARI Concept, TAKERI Concept and onto the new 2014 Mazda6, the elongated cab-rearward stance, strong fenders and multiple sweeping character lines provides an all-new stylish and very sophisticated appearance no matter the angle from which it is viewed. The new KODO signature designed five-point chrome "signature wing" front grille and eagle-eye shaped headlamps with menacing projector lamps behind do not spell anything. They simply say "Get the hell out of my way." The lower front fascia with that aerodynamic chin spoiler adds to the new 6's "Don't screw with me" mystique. The long hood and flowing front fenders curve and twisting across the A-pillar as another sweeping lower curve sweeps down and toward the rear. Another third feature line appears through the rear door and into the wraparound rear taillight lens before blending into the "signature wing" and three dimensional matching chrome piece embedded within the trunk lid. Altogether the design language is not only sophisticated but amazingly clean with a coefficient of drag as low as 0.26, the best in the mid-size sedan segment. The 2014 Mazda6 is built on a 111.4 in. wheelbase and features one of the slimmer waistlines at 72.4 inches in width. It is a lean mean fighting machine with 17 in alloys standard on the Sport with 19 in alloys standard on the Touring and Grand Touring Trims.
