Animated 3D model of the internal workings of a Porsche 917 engine. Model was created in Solidworks. 180 individual frames, representing 2 full engine revolutions, were then rendered in PhotoView 360. First 180 frames are repeated 3 times to produce 30 seconds of video at 24 FPS. Each frame took approximately 20 minutes to render with a resolution of 1280 X 1024.

How to Start a Yamaha after it's been left for years in the garden
Here we have a 1985 Yamaha FZ750. It is the very rare 2GH model as ridden
by Eddie Lawson in the 1986 Daytona 200 to victory with full livery by Troy
Lee Designs. Sadly it has been left for years outside in a garden with the
sea air/rain on it with nothing but a sheet over it. I have removed the
petrol tank to access the fuel supply and have repaired some of the faulty
wiring which probably was the cause of this superbikes demise. I am now
going to completely strip the bike down and restore her to her former
while I welcome constructive comments, I will not tolerate foul language,
swear words and any racist or other comments which may be deemed offensive
to some people

Last weekend I recorded a 1969 Porsche 917 (chassis 025) racing at Monza
Circuit during the "1000 km Challenge" race revival, a 3 hours race in
which race cars from 1960 to 1970 compete for the victory.
This Porsche 917-025 was built for Porsche AG as a long-tail version. In
1970 was converted into a 917 "K" (K stay for Kurzheck, "short" in german),
painted in white with blue stripes and sold to Team Zitro, from
The car is moved by a 4.5 liter Flat-12 engine which can produce 580hp at
8300 rpm and it's able to reach a top speed over 350 km/h (220 mph).

Really appreciate the interest shown so far.

As a kid I remember the sharp bark these engines made at full noise.
Apologies to anoraks who want to know all the details but it was hard to
hear the chap at the engine because of surrounding noise.
The chugging noise you can hear is the vintage Ronaldson Tippett engine
which is turning this engine over slowly so you can see how it works.
Further notes: It is a 2 stroke cycle which fires every revolution and uses
the piston on the inlet side to open and close the port and the piston on
the Exhaust side to uncover the Exhaust at the appropriate time while the
blower is not to supercharge but to "scavenge" the spent gases ( basically
the air blows in the inlet and out the Exhaust at a slight pressure)
