Shot just south of Paris, France in Linas at l'Autodrome de Linas --Montlhéry, this 1.58 mile oval track, built in 1924, features banks as steep as 51 degrees, which is more than double the standard incline of most NASCAR ovals. Chosen by Ken for this specific reason, the ramp-like banking proved to be a unique and exciting challenge. DC SHOES: GYMKHANA 2.1, BLOCK vs DYRDEK
As seen on MTVs Rob Dyrdeks Fantasy Factory, Gymkhana 2.1 takes the epic cinematography and driving from DC Co-Founder and Rally Team Member Ken Block that youve come to expect from the Gymkhana videos and mixes in Rob Dyrdek in his comical and somewhat powerful miniature version of Blocks rally car. The two, who have worked together and been good friends since Dyrdek joined the DC skate team in 1995, decided to get the shifter car built and film the clip when Dyrdek made an appearance in the Gymkhana TWO video earlier this year. A custom mold was made to build the shifter car nearly identical to Kens Subaru WRX STI (except for the head-out-the-roof part). The team at Vermont SportsCar wrapped the shifter in the same graphics as Blocks competition rally car, and a custom fireproof, FIA certified driving suit just like Blocks was even made for Dyrdek. The Gymkhana 2.1 video features all the near run-overs, drifting, racing and shenanigans that occur when two unique individuals like Dyrdek and Block hit the tarmac in polar-opposite-sized whips. 2009 Rally Defi - Ken Block Crash In-Car
Ken Block and Alex Gelsomino entered the Rallye Defi with an unusual car - a Ford Escort MkII. The car was meticulously prepared for Block and was to get it's first rally here. Unfortunately, the pair ended their event early when their Escort locked a wheel, sending them into a ditch. Damage to the car initially appeared minor, but the two were unable to restart the car on the stage. After repairs in service, the two were allowed to run the final three stages before being excluded from the event. Unfortunately, damage was more severe than originally expected, and the team returned from the transit, unable to continue. When the car loaded up heading around a tarmac corner on the first stage, one of the wheels locked up after compressing up against the body, said Block. The car darted off to the left and into the ditch. We got it back out, but we'd broken a ground to the fuel pump, so we couldn't get it restarted. The crew got the ground fixed in service, but we'd also shifted the transmission crossmember, which pulled the tranny back about an eighth of an inch, and we'd broken a bolt in the suspension. When we left to transit out to the next stages, the handling was all over the place, and the shifting wasn't good, so we decided to park it.
