132635 / 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28
For more information on this vehicle visit http://tinyurl.com/bmkj7a5 This sizzling black and orange 1979 Camaro is a documented, numbers matching Z28 that is fresh out of a top-notch restoration which combines the best virtues of originality with straight body and a fresh interior. Built in Van Nuys, California and delivered to William H. Stahl Chevrolet in Southampton, Pennsylvania this 1979 Z28 looks flat out sinister in its slick coat of correct GM code 19 black paint. During its 32 years of careful and limited road time, this F2 has never been wrecked, significantly damaged in any way or torn apart for itemized repairs. Recently, the car was fully restored to better than new condition and presents exceptionally straight panel alignment which lends the fresh gloss black basecoat/clearcoat a straight and smooth sheen from panel to panel. Pop the hood on this cool '79 F-body and you'll find the cars original LM1 350 cubic inch small block V8! Mechanically, this 350 is a great sounding motor that has been immaculately maintained throughout its entire existence. Visually, it's a clean piece in a highly correct engine compartment that presents extremely well. Just below the hood, a satin black air cleaner pipes cool air into a correct Quadrajet carburetor that's equipped with a correct yellow spring. Below that carburetor, the engine block displays GM's traditional corporate blue paint from its intake to its oil pan and sends Exhaust through original cast iron Exhaust manifolds that still retain their factory heat shields. At the back of the motor, a correct Delco-Remy HEI distributor sends fire through gray suppression plug wires, and at the front of the motor, a new battery and fresh cables join correct hoses, correct clamps and fresh V-belts to provide rock solid drivability. Underneath this Camaro, straight and solid floorpans are bolted to a clean 32 year old chassis over an original 3-speed turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission and a correct option GU6 10 bolt Posi-traction rear axle with performance biased 3.42 gears. If you're a Chevrolet fan, then you know any time an F option code is listed on the build sheet, it means some serious suspension upgrades. According to this Camaros build sheet, it is equipped with the Z28 specific F41 special suspension which for 1979, added higher rate springs, stiffer valved shocks, and a thick rear sway bar. That aggressive handling package is further augmented by correct J50 power front disc and power rear drum brakes and factory equipped power steering. At the center of the car, a fresh mandrel bent dual Exhaust system makes good use of an H-pipe and factory replacement mufflers; and at the back of the car a new stainless fuel tank sends fuel through new stainless fuel lines. Torque flows to the pavement through beautifully restored 15 inch GM turbine wheels that wear modern 225/70 BF Goodrich Radial T/As at all four corners. This Camaro's well maintained GM code 74R Carmine Red interior looks good and feels great. The custom cloth seats benefit from firm padding and solid frames that are in excellent shape, and great looking reproduction carpet is protected by correct front and rear factory optioned floor mats. On the roof, a tight headliner frames a round dome light that, along with all of the other factory optioned accessory lights, works like brand new. Between the seats, a red full length console houses a correct factory shifter in front of chrome switches for the cars optional power windows. In front of the shifter, a soft and warp free dash houses new for 1979 gauges above controls for the cars HVAC system and a date correct radio. At the sides of the seats, stainless trimmed door panels feature cool "Z28" emblems along with stainless trim, chrome door handles and like-new door grabs. The simulated rope steering wheel looks perfect atop its red tilt column, and behind the rear seats, you'll find a restored trunk that contains a correct 14 inch Stowaway spare tire. With an original numbers matching drivetrain and a killer color combination, this '79 Z28 is the kind of car that you can drive and show off for years while watching its value grow. Chevrolet Camaro Z28 IROC-Z--Test Drive Video Review with Chris Moran
http://www.SupercarNetwork.com A museum-piece 1987 Camaro Z28 IROC-Z with Chris Moran. Presented by Midwest Auto Collection. with Chris Moran The 1987 Chevy Camaro Sport Coupe got restyled rally wheels (unique to this year), new lower body stripes, and argent headlamp pockets. The dropped Berlinetta model was replaced with the new 'LT' option for the '87 Camaro Sport Coupe. The 1987 Camaro LT option incorporated most of the Berlinetta's equipment except the electronic instrumentation. Late in the model year, the 1987 Chevrolet Camaro RS was introduced as a test for California and with only V-6 power. It had Z28 style valances that were painted body color (like IROC) and had no lower body stripes. The RS got the 15 inch 5 spoke aluminum Z28 wheel which were painted to match body color. The 1987 Chevrolet Camaro RS came only in red, white, or black. It also had the same steering wheel used in Z28's and IROC-Z's. Delco-Bose sound systems and leather interior were available for the first time and were available on all Camaro models. Automatic gearshift knob is switched from round to square in all models. The CHMSL moved to the spoiler (which was slightly increased in size) on all cars equipped with a spoiler (all Z28's, IROC-Z's, spoiler optional on LT and Sport Coupe). Lower body stripes on Z28 still numbered 4, but gap between the top three stripes was removed. The Camaro convertible was introduced for the first time since 1969 as a regular production option. The convertible was available on the 1987 Chevy Camaro Sport Coupe, Sport Coupe LT, Z28, and IROC-Z. The new 350 TPI motor was not available in the convertible however, and never would be during the Third Gen. The convertible conversion was performed on t-top equipped (t-top models have extra bracing) Camaros by ASC. Only 1,007 convertibles were produced this first year of production. 1987 was the 20th anniversary of the Camaro and the convertibles were considered the anniversary editions and were signified by a special dash badge that read `20th Anniversary Commemorative Edition'. Also specific to the 87 convertibles were the one year only third brake light and fairings extending a few inches onto the top edge of the doors. G92 performance axle ratio and J65 four wheel disc brakes were available this year on the IROC-Z convertible. 1987 was the last year for Camaros to be produced at the Norwood Ohio plant, the original Camaro Plant. After much testing the year before, the 350 TPI and 5 Speed 305 TPI combinations were finally available on the IROC-Z28. The 350 was only available in the IROC-Z and only with an automatic transmission. The exterior differed in appearance only by `5.7 Tuned Port Injection' badges rather than `Tuned Port Injection' badges. The TPI 350 motor was not visually distinguishable from the TPI 305. A few things can be used to disinguish a 350 TPI from a 305 TPI though. (other than the badges, which are often changed to sell a 305 TPI as a 350 TPI). All TPI 350 IROC-Z's (1987-1990) and all TPI 350 Z28's (1991-1992) had automatic transmissions and most had rear disc brakes. The eighth digit of the VIN is an `8' for 350 TPI's and an `F' for 305 TPI's. The service parts identification list in the center console glovebox will list the code B2L and L98 for a 350 TPI, LB9 for a 305 TPI. The under hood sticker should list the motor as a 5.7 liter rather than a 5.0 liter. All TPI 350 (1987-1992) Camaros had a tach with yellow at 5000 and red at 5500. They also all came with the Borg Warner 9 Bolt and 3.27's in 87 only, other years it was optional. In 1987, the 215hp 305 TPI motor returned on the newly available 5 spd / 305 TPI combination only. Chevy Performance's LSX454 - Big Block Power in a Small Block Package!
Using the adage from '60's musclecars that "bigger is better", the famous 427 CID L88 was soon surpassed by a bigger, more powerful 454 CID engine in various configurations. Today, we've followed the same path with the Chevrolet Performance LSX454. The rugged LSX454 is all-new and designed for serious power in the 21st century. The amazing thing is that this big cubic inch package takes up the same physical space as a factory LS engine. With a carburetor and a high-flow GMPP LSX-LS7 intake manifold, the LSX454 will produce about 620 horsepower at 6200 rpm and 600 lb/ft of torque at 4800 rpm. For more information on the LSX454 go to http://www.chevroletperformance.com/Parts/showcase_detail.jsp?engine=2
