Torino GT 1969 Fastback at Drag Strip
This is me driving the car at the track, first time for car and driver. This was my first car, which I began working on 9 years ago in order to have something to drive to high school. I did most all the restoration work myself, with the help of knowledge imparted by my Dad, and lots of help over the years from friends and family, and the support of my wonderful wife. It's a 351W based 408ci small block, AFR185 heads, Comp XE282HR cam, Headman 1-5/8 headers, 3" dual Exhaust system (mufflers are $20 summit turbo's), Edelbrock RPM Air Gap Intake, Single 750VS Demon. All engine work was done by me. The transmission is a Tremec TKO 500 5spd manual, and it has a ford 9" rear with 3.89 gears and detroit true trac differential (also built by me, so far it's not howling!!!) The rear suspension is completely stock save for the cheap and simple u-bolt traction bars. This day at the track taught me a lot, and over the 7 different runs I mistakenly read the 60ft times as denoting bad traction, but after watching these videos it actually looks like I had plenty of traction and was leaving too soft, causing the engine to bog right off the line (I was only leaving at 1,500RPM) The torque of the 408 snapped right back in quickly though. The time here was 12.70 at 112.5, my highest trap speed of the night. The best ET was a couple runs later, after I entered a street car bracket race, with 12.40 at 110. I don't have a timeslip for this run, so I don't know the details, but my best 60ft of the night was 1.7 sec, and most were around 1.9, but I was running into that bog problem and my reaction times got a little worse. I am anxious to go back and try launching at higher RPM and with less tire pressure, as I was running 19lbs in the 275-50 BFG drag radials. With me in the car it weighs about 3700lbs. I give all this information because over the course of my build I was always looking for people running a similiar setup for comparative purposes, so maybe this will help someone else with their project. More videos to come of the next trip to the strip.

Zakspeed Ford Turbo Capri
