BARONA 2014 RENEGADE GAMBLER SERIES #1 The Chevrolet Vega is a subcompact
automobile that was produced by the Chevrolet division of General Motors
(GM) from 1970 to 1977. The car's name came from a bright star in the
northern skies.Available in two-door hatchback, notchback, wagon, and
panel delivery body styles, all models were powered by an inline
four-cylinder engine with a lightweight, aluminum alloy cylinder block. The
Vega competed directly with its domestic rivals from Ford and AMC and
imports from Toyota and Datsun as well as the aging VW Beetle. The Vega
received praise and awards at its introduction, including 1971 Motor Trend
Car of the Year. Subsequently the car became widely known for early
model problems concerning its engineering, reliability, safety,
propensity to rust, and engine durability. The one-millionth Vega was
produced in May, 1973 The Vega was among the top 10 best-selling
American cars in 1974. The Cosworth Vega, a short-lived
limited-production performance model was introduced in March 1975.
Despite annual improvements, further development with design
upgradesand efforts to improve the car's image,Chevrolet cancelled
the Vega and its aluminum engine at the end of the 1977 model run.1972
models had a revised Exhaust system
and driveline to reduce vibration and noise; also revised shock absorbers.
